My wife & I gave up on using our lightweight, inexpensive vacuum. It was $70 & lasted 6 good years. Now it smells like burning rubber when it's on & just doesn't do the job it used to. This time around, we decided to get something of better quality & definitely bagless. We almost got a model below (Velocity) but the Healthy Home just seemed to be designed much better & had greater aesthetics (in my opinion of course).
The vac is a decent size but heavy. You will get over the initial shock after doing a few rooms. But I warn anyone that isn't in good physical condition, it will seem like a workout. It has a nice 15" wide path. The rubber-coated handles feel great. The attachments lock in securely. The electrical cord is very long (35'). The hose is very nicely designed. It seems like a Slinky coated in rubber. It stretches like an accordion & snaps back to shape as expected. The extension for the hose is also nicely designed as well as a very functional crevice tool. It has a soft bristled brush for upholstery where the longer bristles can be removed exposing, shorter coarse bristles. It's a great idea to break up dry food particles in carpet. There's a power brush that stows on-board & works wonderfully on carpeted stairs.
The dust bin is very well designed. You grab the rubbery handle & press the release button to remove the canister from the vac. Then you hold it over the garbage & press a button to open the trap door at the bottom. With a little shake, most or all dirt & debris fall right out. You can take it apart further for cleaning & removal but I haven't needed to yet. It snaps in easily once finished. Build quality feels excellent on all parts. The Hepa filter is also easily accessible & replaced. Watching the dust bin fill is a treat. You feel a greater sense of accomplishment seeing how much dirt you've removed from your home. I've never been so happy to look at dirt, dust & pet hair.
The suction is excellent. My worn looking area rugs looked vibrant again. The low pile seemed to be standing better & the color was back to how I remember them in the store. It is very impressive to see how much dirt is living in the carpet when that clear bin fills. I also used it on the kitchen floor before mopping. Normally, my mop would find errant particles but not this time. Between the main vac & crevice tool, there was nothing on the floor for the mop to find.
Some of the small things that I appreciate are in the great design. The power button is on top, right near your thumb. No need to step on a button or look to the front. Also, you can turn off the brush with a button a couple of inches away from that. One hand operation is nice. It's like car stereo controls being on your steering wheel. Another nice feature is that the brush doesn't spin when it's upright. This way it doesn't spin when using the hose and you don't have to remember to turn it off. It has a headlight that is useful when getting into dim corners.
Overall, I don't think I could do better for the money. My wife loves the Dyson's but I couldn't justify spending that much money. I wouldn't even call this a compromise since we both like it so much. Definitely highly recommended.
