Author's Review
GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY: 55 British Pounds Sterling inc.delivery from Barmey UK, makes it the cheapest machine right now.
I considered getting a model with the powered brushes and upholstery attachments but having read the reviews about those ones, how they keep breaking down, poor results, flimsy parts etc, I'll be sticking to the basic 190E model again. If this one lasts a year with the same relentless use then I will be over the moon. OWNED ONE BEFORE, I've had this model 1950E Quickwash before and was very happy with it. PERFECT FOR KEEPING MY BEIGE CARPETS CLEAN.
LITTLE EFFORT REQUIRED, easy to assemble, use and maintain. OK you have to fill it with water, pass it around carpets and empty all the dirty water away but that is much easier than going down on my hands and knees, less hassle than going to a shop to hire one (I don't drive) also I can use it when I want and need to, no waiting for salesman or cleaning personnel.
GOOD FOR SMALL HOMES OR MEDIUM WEAR. I use it to keep on top of all the mess my toddler and my husband can throw at it, shoe wearing, food fights, make-up spills (me NOT husband) 2 BED apartment the carpets in the lounge, hallway and bedrooms, this machine gets used WEEKLY and MONTHLY, plain hoovering is not enough for me to feel safe that my little girl is crawling around and placing her bedtime toys on the carpet plus she likes to eat on the move so I rely on this machine to keep the carpet almost new.
WEEKLY the machine is filled for quick bursts with a bit of VANISH OXY in the tank for those tough stains like tea, coffee, lipstick, tomato sauce.
MONTHLY the carpets get a general clean to keep the lovely beige colour. This time I do the whole flat over two days. I spend about 60 minutes on the big rooms and 30 minutes on the small rooms. FILLING UP and EMPTYING the water tanks takes up the time but the results are worth it, it's satisfying to chuck out the dirty water. I had my carpets for nearly a year before I invested in this machine so that makes it a bit harder to start with.
SWITCHING ON AND PASSING the machine around is easy.
The machine works by dispensing the clean water and sucking up the dirty water in separate tanks, you only take off and put back the tanks. You have to clean out the filter and rinse out the dirty tank before storing and that is dead easy too.
NUMBER OF FILLS for a small room I used 4 - 6 tanks and for large rooms I use 8 - 12 tanks for the large rooms. The last few tanks will be just plain hot water.
PACE you need to spend roughly 5 minutes per square meter for a refresh and more for a soiled area.
Work at a pace that suits you and the depth of the stains/dirt. I work slow when I'm tackling a stain and fast if it's just a refresh.
FINISH the carpet will be damp, after all you are using water. No need to fret though, just open the windows or turn up your heating for a quicker dry. In summer it dries same day, in Winter it can feel damp until the next day. Anyway the carpets are always clean and fresh
COST Solutions are the main cost, Bissell solution is the most expensive, you could try using VAX it's just as good and a lot cheaper or just use SODA CRYSTALS in hot water, it's safe and effective, I just add some essential oil in my final rinse to get a great scent, it's nicer than the Bissell shampoo.
PLUS points: EFFECTIVE,EASY,COMPACT,LOW-COST. I love the way it makes my carpets clean, I find it really easy too. Also it's very light and compact and will fit into a small cupboard so it can be at hand for daily clean ups. It's easy to use, just fill up,pass it up and down, empty it, finally admire your clean carpets.
DOWN points: Noisier than my vacuum cleaner but ultimately more effective. Apparently this is normal. Shampoo can be expensive (use SODA CRYSTALS) Lots of filling and emptying (for very large carpets consider the PROHEAT model.
TIPS: NOISE is normal for these machines, even the expensive models are loud, just make sure no one is asleep or has a hangover. SHAMPOO COSTS: Bissell shampoo is expensive for the frequency I need, however I found soda crystals in hot water works great, just one tablespoon per tank, also for bad stains spot treat them first with Vanish OXY applied direct to the stain by hand or in the tank. FILLING and EMPTYING: instructions recommend one tank of water per square metre of carpet, that is accurate for a fairly dirty carpet, you just have to get fit or have large buckets of hot water nearby to save you running to the kitchen.
