Author's Review
Dave Barry is one of the most famous writers of all time, and possibly the funniest person in the history of the world. He appears in over 800 newspapers every Sunday to spout out exaggerated and often hilarious views on issues he considers important, whether it's dealing with his children, going overseas, or reporting on very intersting news stories. He also has a fine line of books that contain even more columns on the same, but each one is different in their little ways. Now Dave Barry has finally ventured into unknown territory, but he knows how to handle it. This is Dave Barry's first full blown novel. Stephen King himself said he fell out of his chair and hit his head on the floor from laughing so hard (as said on the back of the book.)
The book takes place in Dave Barry's native city, Miami, where anything can happen. The book starts off with Puggy, a lowly bum who is a bit new to Miami. He soon gets a job working at a bar too dirty to even be called a "dive". In the bar, he meets Snake and Eddie....
Puggy finds a nice place to stay in a nice part of Miami, and settles into a tree right by the Herk's house. Arthur Herk is a drunken man who is having problems with the company he is working for. Anna Herk is his beutiful wife, who tries and tries to find it in herself to tell him that the marriage doesn't work. Jennifer Herk is the daughter, who seems to just tag along, occasionally making fun of her father behind her back. Then there is the maid, who is a mexican immigrant.
Then we get Elliot Arnold, who has his own advertising agency. He is currently working on the Hammerhead Beer project witha client who is giving Elliot a REALLY hard time. Then there is Elliot's son, Matt, who is going to snipe Jennifer from a tree and "kill" her, although he is using a squirt gun. 2 more people, Henry and Lenord, are hired hitman assigned to kill Arthur Herk that very night. What ends up happening is one of the funniest scenes I have ever come upon in a book.
Throughout Big Trouble, various people get involved in interesting situations. Some are left in the dark, some are taking things one step too far, and some are sitting back and enjoying the ride. In any case, this book could be viewed as a really screwed up situation comedy. However, the book contains a lot of "language", though is does say in the book. Along with language, there are a few other scenes that shouldn't be read by......anyone.
I only mentioned the characters you are introduced to early in the book. Along the way you will also meet cops, psychos, FBI agents, and detectives as the story gets more and more chaotic, eventually turning into a situation that could effect the whole city of Miami! This sounds like a pretty serious book, but Dave Barry keeps it unbelievably hilarious throughout every sentance, every word, every INK MARK. You will have never read anything funnier in your life.
