Awesome 1080p Picture; Quiet; ISF cal setting

by   lynncrockett ,   Jun 12, 2008

Pros:  Resolution - Full 1080p; Quiet; Vert Lens Shift; Bright during day viewing

Cons:  Zoom Range; only 1 HDMI connection; Pic-in-Pic sources

The Bottom Line:  Great full 1080p picture; handles dark scenes well and skin tones are prefect but this is advantages of a DLP darkchip.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

I was really blown away when I saw this running in comparison with other 1080p projectors side by side. The detail is amazing especially for its price. I have stopped looking at the image and become immersed in the movie! The details and definition of the picture are complete, each time I watch something new I am impressed.

It has 1080p (1920x1080 Pixels) native resolution with a DLP darkchip 3. It has powered zoom, focus and vert lens shift. It will accept: 1080p/24,1080i,720p,576i, 576p sources.

I just wished there was more OTA (over the air) 1080i content to show it off, need to get a BD player.

I have it in room that has moderate light from windows on 2 sides and this still has enough lumens (1200 ANSI) to make my Da-Lite screen very bright.

It is very quiet even on full brightness. However I usually run it in economy mode - 23.0 dB. You can slow down the color wheel from 5x to 4x which also makes it so quiet you have to be very close to it hear it.

It has two modes for ISF day and ISF night that can be full calibrated by an ISF tech.

Back panel has connection for HDMI, 2 component, Computer, S-Video, Composite.

It has vertical lens shift which is a must if you don't want to distort the native picture, pixel/pixel, the DLP chip can produce.

It also has a 12 volt trigger which is great for me with an electronic retractable screen.

Lamp hours is typical of approx 3000 hours, although I'm still on my first lamp. It does have a dust filter that needs cleaned very so often. Both the lamp and dust filter are easily accessed from the side panels so you can do this while it is mounted to the ceiling.

Only thing that could be better would be a larger zoom ratio. Zoom Power controlled ratio=1.15:1 I have to have it back 15 ft from the 110" screen.

I wished the vertical lens shift was more the just 100% to -100% range. 125% each way would work out better in my setup since I have 9ft ceilings.

It has a picture in picture mode but one sources has to be S-Video or composite. You can be watching a HDMI source and but you CAN NOT put a pic-in-pic from the component source. It must come from S-Video or composite. Would be nice if it allowed pic-in-pic between any two sources.

The projector case it a bit bigger than most other 1080p projectors. (HxWxD): 7.7 x 19.4 x 15.5 inches Weight: 20lbs

Also it would be nice to have more than one HDMI connection.
