I'm not really an alcohol enthusiast. By that I mean that I can't tell you what flavors predominate in this beverage and other information like that. I know that I like this vodka, and I can tell you why I like it, just don't expect anything too fancy. I have plenty of friends who could tell me this stuff, but I don't know it and I am willing to bet that not many people even notice the taste of toffee that this supposedly has. ( Toffee? What the heck? I know what toffee tastes like and I don't know where they got that comparison from. )
A few months ago I was going to a party and needed to bring something to drink. My beverage of choice at the time was a Madras ( vodka, orange juice and cranberry juice, with a lime ). I am very much into drinking beverages that don't taste alcoholic. So I bought some juice and headed down to the liquor store with a friend. I was looking at the vodka and was undecided. My friend suggested Belvedere. He said that he had tried it some time ago and had enjoyed it, even though he isn't a big vodka drinker. It wasn't too pricey so I grabbed a bottle and took it up to the register. The bottle itself is very lovely. The glass is frosted and there is a cork in the bottle instead of a cap, I thought that was a very nice touch.
We got to the party and I dove right in. I mixed myself a Madras, a little on the strong side, and found a chair to perch in. To my surprise the drink didn't seem very strong. Because of this I drank it quickly and mixed myself another. This vodka is mild.... I mean there is a little bit of that burning feeling when you drink it, but it's way better than Absolut, or anything else similar to that. The downside to that is that I kept right on drinking because it just seemed like there wasn't enough vodka in my drinks. Every time I made another one I would put more vodka in it than I had the time before. Then suddenly I went to mix my zillionth drink and realized I had put away the entire bottle, save for one vodka tonic I had made for a friend. Of course, it was then that I also suddenly realized that I couldn't stand upright. Whew! what a vodka.
In retrospect, I should have saved this vodka for one or two drink occasions and gotten plastered on something cheaper. a) I would have appreciated it a little more tha way, I think. and b)I probably wouldn't have drank the entire bottle without realizing it. As a side note, it wasn't a bad drunk. I didn't get physically ill and had virtually no hangover the next day. I also didn't remember the rest of the evening. You win some, lose some... right?
I think this is definitely a vodka you would want to keep around to drink every now and then. It isn't something I would stock up on for a party, unless I really liked the people at the party. It is great for mixing drinks with as the taste is mild and not unpleasant. As far as foods that it would go well with... that all depends on what kind of drinks you are mixing.
