Pros:
Reliable, excellent sensitivity and settings. Excellent cord and connection.

Does not provide for software upgrades, nor does it have European frequency.
The Bottom Line:
Unless you absolutely need European band or are confident that the US will get new bands soon - - buy this detector and be happy!

Author's Review
Just got back to NY from a West Coast trip. Drove from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and then on to San Francisco. Numerous side trips including Sacramento and Muir Woods. All in all, drove well over 1,000 miles - - at every speed, every type road, all environments.
This detector performed flawlessly!
Got it the week before the trip and got accustomed to it here in NY.
Easily mounted in the rental vehicle with the suction cup mount. Easily disconnected and reconnected to the mount throughout the trip.
Sensitivity proved excellent and false alerts were minimal.
Numerous customizable settings make it truly personalized. I set it to provide POP warnings and SWS advisements (but only in areas where they are available).
The Auto Scan mode works wonders, making it almost unnecessary to use the Highway or City modes. I say almost, because in Las Vegas (on The Strip) I was forced into using the City mode to avoid falsing. Also, going through the desert, I went into Highway mode to provide maximum sensitivity at 70mph limits.
There are even customizable settings for the City mode to match this mode to your city if you need to.
This is my fourth detector (a Radio Shack detector in 1979, a Uniden in the mid 80s (later coupled with a piggy back laser detector), a Bel 840i in 1999 (I traded this in for the 965 which I bought direct from Bel on their website - - I got $60 for the trade, you can get more if you buy the top model).
The power cord uses a phone type connector, giving the most secure connection I have seen. The cord, itself, is heavy duty and should resist coil extension.
There is a smart cord available, but this would only be needed for either super dark mode or if you have a really deep dashboard, making the detector hard to reach to mute (however there is an auto-mute setting which provides for reduced volume after a few seconds).
Of course, I anticipate the same results in my own car(s) here on the East Coast.
