Beltronics BEL Vector 985: You Don't Need To Spend A Fortune To Evade Cops!

by  soupcraze ,  Feb 16, 2003
20 out of 20 people found this review helpful.
Pros: PRICE, Radar Sensitivity, Nice Looking, Picks Up All Major Bands Including Laser
Cons: More Falsing Than Valentine One or Escort
The Bottom Line: This is by far the best affordable protection out there... For only $205, how can you not afford to buy this?
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: Beltronics is one of the biggest players in the radar detector market. Their Vector series is their highest end radars. I've seen the BEL 985 at a $329.95 MSRP, but the detector can actually be purchased for as little as $205. This makes it half the...

Review: Hello Folks,
The results are in and they are not good but GREAT. I have had quite a bit of experience with detectors ranging back about 16 years ago. I have previously owned 3 top brand models that fell far short of my expectations. For many...

Money well spent on the Bel 985

by  turbosaab ,  Dec 1, 2002
9 out of 9 people found this review helpful.
Pros: Good range, low number of false alarms.
Cons: Hard to read display, poor bracket design.
The Bottom Line: This radar detector excels at what it is supposed to do - alert you of police radar. Has a few drawbacks, but it's been worth every penny.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: This radar detector excels at what it is supposed to do - alert you of police radar. I've had the 985 for about 6 months and 10,000 miles of driving, and overall I've found it to be a good unit. I bought it after owning the very similar Bel 980,...

by  polaris176 ,  Apr 29, 2003
8 out of 8 people found this review helpful.
Pros: Sensitivity; Features (for those who are into that)
Cons: um....
The Bottom Line: Though not necessarily the best, the Bel 985 is a solid detector.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: Note: This review was written during the summer of 2002 and not published until yesterday, but I still believe this is a pretty accurate review after having almost a year of experience with the 985.

Audible alert quit working after 1 year!!

by  misssatan ,  Jan 3, 2005
8 out of 8 people found this review helpful.
Pros: Liked the features, accurately warned of Ka band presence in front of car.
Cons: Alert failed after just over 1 year of use and so did the warranty!
The Bottom Line: If you can, spend the money on a better detector - it will be worth all the saved money from tickets/raised insurance.
This reviewer does not recommend this product.
Review: After researching radar detectors on the internet and on Epinions, I purchased two of the Beltronics 985 Radar detectors for each car. Both worked for just over a year - conveniently the warranty was for a year as well. The first one stopped working...

Deserving to be among the top detectors.

by  gerall ,  Sep 3, 2003
7 out of 7 people found this review helpful.
Pros: Top rate detection. Few Falsings. Full featured.
Cons: Windshield mount. Display. DC power cord location.
The Bottom Line: With a few engineering changes to display and mount systems I would go 10/10 on this detector.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: I have owned a myriad of detectors over the past 20 years. I dropped my BEL vector in driveway and it dissassembled itself beyond repair. Purchased new BEL 985 as replacement.

Construction: This unit is very well built physically and...

Pros: Nice looking detector, full of features, programmable, very accurate, range, upgradeable.
Cons: Coiled cord could be of better quality.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: This unit generally retails for $299, but I was able to pick one up for $250 new. I have previously owned the Passport 8500 and found it to be exceptionally good. After doing some research I decided to try the Bel 985. I like the black color as it...

I thought it was invisible to detection!!!

by  hooked ,  Jul 5, 2004
5 out of 5 people found this review helpful.
Pros: Reliable on the warnings. Not many false alarms in the city.
Cons: Detectable to police technology.
This reviewer does not recommend this product.
Review: Worked well while I had it; 3 weeks.
Got stopped by a OPP patrol car equipped with detection unit, not sure which, but does it matter?
There was no way he could have seen it at 11.30 pm on a dark highway in Ontario, Canada, so I know it...

City use

by  tpalm ,  Apr 3, 2004
5 out of 5 people found this review helpful.
Pros: Programmable features.
Cons: False alarm rate.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: Difficult balance between sensitivity and "falsing". Great on highway but in the city, even on the reduced sensitivity "City All" mode, false alarm frequency is quite aggravating. Empirically, I am certain of radar in the area only when the warning...

Great value in radar detectors

by  geoffm24 ,  Sep 12, 2003
4 out of 4 people found this review helpful.
Pros: Best "real" radar for the lowest price.
Cons: Not quite as good as V1 or Passport but VERY close.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: I knew that the Passport and Valentine One were supposed to be the best detectors on the market but I found the prices to be just too high. I wanted high end protection but a little better price.

I read reviews at radartest.com, car and...
