Beltronics BEL Vector 985: You Don't Need To Spend A Fortune To Evade Cops!

by   soupcraze ,  Feb 16, 2003
Pros: PRICE, Radar Sensitivity, Nice Looking, Picks Up All Major Bands Including Laser
Cons: More Falsing Than Valentine One or Escort
The Bottom Line: This is by far the best affordable protection out there... For only $205, how can you not afford to buy this?
Review: Beltronics is one of the biggest players in the radar detector market. Their Vector series is their highest end radars. I've seen the BEL 985 at a $329.95 MSRP, but the detector can actually be purchased for as little as $205. This makes it half the price ...

Bel 985- worth its price?

by   polaris176 ,  Apr 29, 2003
Pros: Sensitivity; Features (for those who are into that)
Cons: um....
The Bottom Line: Though not necessarily the best, the Bel 985 is a solid detector.
Review: Note: This review was written during the summer of 2002 and not published until yesterday, but I still believe this is a pretty accurate review after having almost a year of experience with the 985.

Money well spent on the Bel 985

by   turbosaab ,  Dec 1, 2002
Pros: Good range, low number of false alarms.
Cons: Hard to read display, poor bracket design.
The Bottom Line: This radar detector excels at what it is supposed to do - alert you of police radar. Has a few drawbacks, but it's been worth every penny.
Review: This radar detector excels at what it is supposed to do - alert you of police radar. I've had the 985 for about 6 months and 10,000 miles of driving, and overall I've found it to be a good unit. I bought it after owning the very similar Bel 980, which...

10 months with the 985 and no Tickets

by   bollockybill ,  Oct 22, 2003
Pros: good sensitivity, programmability, upgradeable
Cons: durability(faulty speaker after 10 months. Lousy mounting clip.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend the Bel 985 based on my experience with it. I had no tickets while using this unit.
Review: I purchased the 985 in January 2003, and up until this month(10/03)it has performed flawlessly. I like the fact that it is so programmable. After about a month I turned the x-band off because I have yet to see a cop use x-band in Illinois. Mo ...

Awesome Detector !!!!!

by   mktamerica ,  Jun 27, 2002
Pros: Sensitivity, Range, Clarity of voice and tone alerts, Bright display, 16 selectable features
Cons: Haven't found any yet.
The Bottom Line: If you want a detector that does what it it supposed to do, which is sniff out radar, then this is definetely for you.
Review: Hello Folks,
The results are in and they are not good but GREAT. I have had quite a bit of experience with detectors ranging back about 16 years ago. I have previously owned 3 top brand models that fell far short of my expectations. For many years...

Deserving to be among the top detectors.

by   gerall ,  Sep 3, 2003
Pros: Top rate detection. Few Falsings. Full featured.
Cons: Windshield mount. Display. DC power cord location.
The Bottom Line: With a few engineering changes to display and mount systems I would go 10/10 on this detector.
Review: I have owned a myriad of detectors over the past 20 years. I dropped my BEL vector in driveway and i ...

Bel Vector 985... your best bet!

by   emu3739 ,  Sep 4, 2003
Pros: Voice notices, Distance meter, Great Range, Hasn't falsed yet!
Cons: NOTHING!
The Bottom Line: Basically, if you're looking for some time to slow down before some cops, this is great. It detects radars from around 500 meters away I think I read.
Review: Wow. This is THE best radar detector on the market, in my honest opinion. No falsing (so far). ...

The best detector period!

by   axcessitall ,  Jun 6, 2003
Pros: EVERYTHING! The only detector you will ever need!
Cons: I think the suction cups could be a little stronger.
The Bottom Line: If you want a warning when the police are near and not just a bank or store then this is the unit for you!
Review: After getting a good sized ticket by a stupid speed trap found myself buying a detector once again to help with the situation. My last detector was a cobra (El Cheapo) and it used to false so much that I would just mute it or shut it off. This detector...

The Bel Vector 985 is just awesome!

by   mogwai2424 ,  May 15, 2003
Pros: The best radar detector I have had(3) and its range is sweet!
Cons: A little pricey but it will pay for itself in the end.
The Bottom Line: If you want a sweet radar detector because your a crazy driver buy the 985 today! Don't wait you'll be sorry! JUST BUY IT!
Review: The Bel Vector 985 radar detector is a sweet product. The price maybe a little high but the 985 rules so much you will soon forget how much you spent on it and you'll know how much butt it kicks when those darn cops are trying to get you.Its not as fancy...

"...But Wait, There's More!..."

by   siriusb ,  Sep 17, 2002
Pros: Sensitivity, ergonomics, overall design, cost
Cons: none
The Bottom Line: People....attention...this is the radar detector you need. Skip a few lunches (you can probably use it,....we all can) don't buy that extra sixpack. It does everything it's asked to do.
Review: If you're reading this review, you've probably owned and used at least one radar detector. Over the years (more than I'll ever admit to) I've used everything from Escorts to Whistlers and they have all had their strong and weak points.
The...
