A great Sci-Fi show I've always loved now on DVD!

It's great to see that they are preserving one of my all-time favorite Sci-Fi series on DVD! It's also great to see the original series again, especailly now that there is a new series out which is nothing like the original.

This review is of the original series DVD set. I've seen this entire series on Netflix, and do hope to buy the DVD set for myself. This series was only on for one season, unfortunately. But Battlestar Galactica has had a huge following.

Battlestar Galactica is about a society of humans from several planets who were deceived and savagely attacked by a machine race called Cylons. They had distroyed all the planets these humans lived on, forcing them to go out into space and seek out a planet referred to in their folklore as "Earth". The whole while the Cylons pursuing them in an effort to exterminate all human life. They also encounter other unfriendly forces along the way.

This DVD set contains the 3-part miniseries "Saga of the Star World" as well as every episode of the original Battlestar Galactica that aired in 1978. There is also commentary in the extras by Richard Hatch (Apollo), Herb Jefferson Jr (Boomer), and Dirk Benedict (Starbuck). By selecting this option you can watch the 3-part miniseries and hear their comments throughout the show.

Other extras include deleted scenes. Actually, there were two versions of "Saga of the Star World". The version on the DVD set is the one shown on TV, where in the Epilogue Baltar is spared and given his own Base Star and aide, Lucifer. But in the original movie, Baltar is decapitated in the presense of the Imperious Leader by one of the Cylon Centurions. The deleted scenes shows some of the takes as one of the actors in the Centurion suit practices the scene with his sword just to Baltar's neck. There are also some other interesting scenes that aren't shown in the original airings, cut are included in the extras.

This is one great DVD set to have, especially for fans of the original series. You can enjoy all your favorite episodes again. What's nice about Battlestar Galactica is that it's great for the whole family to watch.
