What Happens When Batman Retires? Bat-Golfing? NOPE. |
|||
|
Pros: Perfect characterization of Batman, Alfred, Gordon--amazing story, great artwork.
Cons: Shockingly violent in places...
The Bottom Line: The Best Batman Book EVER. Literature, not a comic book.
Review: "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" is at the top of my Quite Large Comic Book Heap. I own hundreds of comics, and almost 50 collections, like this one, that are bound in a "trade paperback" format. More durable paper, better printing. "Dark Knight" is...

Pros: Once again Frank Miller outdoes . . . well, everybody.
Cons: Unfortunately, DKR paved the way for a lot of bad imitators in the mid-90s.
The Bottom Line: Now I have to wait another 10 years or so, so I can read it again with fresh eyes.
Review: Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns is the story about the death of a crime fighter, and the b ...

Pros: One of the finest pieces of written art I have ever read.
Cons: When it came out, made all other comics seem immaterial.
The Bottom Line: Only reason it gets five stars is because that is the highest I can give it.
Review: Let me start by saying that there have been many great comic books written since the Dark Knight, so I may no longer be able to call this one the 'greatest', but at the time it was released there was nothing that even came close to it. The drama,...

Hush, hear the lower tones of the characters minds |
|||
|
Pros: Paradigm shift on Batman. And it works!!!
Cons: For some, perhaps a little depressing, Bruce isnt all that happy.
The Bottom Line: Read and look at this work of art to see a complete reinvention of superheroes and their world. Sheer beauty in artwork and story.
Review: All the superheroes have gone. A restless public finally decided that the benefits of having super-powered caped crusaders bouncing across America was outweighed by their lack of legitimate accountability. Superheroes are just vigilantes, cries ...

Pros: EVERYTHING. Even the really depressing parts.
Cons: um.... the really depressing parts for some people- You losers!
The Bottom Line: READ IT
Review: I am young. In fact, when the original issues to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns were published I still in diapers. I also am not a big comic collector; I own possibly fifteen individual issues and sixteen trade paperbacks of various titles (mostly Batman ...

Story of a Legend |
|||
|
Pros: Excellent comic that transcends the medium
Cons: Violent and nasty at times
Review: "Batman: The Dark Night Returns" is the trade paperback collection of the four issue miniseries of the same name. Story by Frank Miller, Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley, published by DC Comics.
This is the comic book miniseries that... |

Pros: Miller reworks the characters brilliantly
Cons: Not necessarily for younger readers
The Bottom Line: An excellent tale of the last days of the Batman
Review: Mention Batman to almost anyone and they will be able to tell you more or less who he is. The Dark Knight Detective, The Caped Crusader, the guy who hung out with a kid called Robin. What you have there is one of the most famous characters to emerge from...

Pros: Humanized, realist interpretation of the Gotham City universe
Cons: No real supervillains, a dramatic approach that may not appeal to everyone
Review: 1989 was definitely my "All Things Batman" summer. I saw the movie in early June and became hooked on the TV show soon after. And I used my meager allowance and earnings from selling blown glass at the state fair with my dad to snatch up...

Pros: Writing, penciling, coloring, story
Cons: too short; i want more :(
The Bottom Line: Please read this
Review: Hey, you guys, you screwed up the title. The Batman book that Miller and Mazzuchelli did was Batman: Year One. I'll be reviewng that, just to let all you confused people know. Batman: Year One came out I think a year after Batman: THe Dark Knight Retur ...

Pros: Great story line. Excellent artist depictions. Frank Miller....nuff said.
Cons: You might wear out your first copy of this book quite rapidly.
The Bottom Line: Batman comics got a facelift in the 90's and this is the comic book that was responsible.
Review: This comic will knock your socks off.... among other things
This isn't your average version of Batman, and it's definitely not the Batman from all of those retarded movies. The version of Batman that you will find in this book is a... |
