Author's Review
Some of you may have read my earlier posting regarding the hidden bias in the financial press. Now I am going to offer you an alternative that is not biased. First of all, a little background on my previous post. Many financial publications are partially owned by brokerages and, therefore, offer tainted views of companies that they profile. I believe that this practice should be stopped, or at least publicized.
Well, there is one publication that is not biased due to ownership reasons- Barron's. The weekly comes in a newspaper format and offers recaps of the previous week's action, upcoming week's expectations, and a bountiful amount of figures and articles on all areas of finance. For instance, Barron's is the only weekly that I am aware of that provides information on options, commodities, and currencies. Helpful, if you follow that stuff and interesting if you just want to learn or browse some of the more complicated areas of the markets. In addition, you can look at what the newsletters are saying, read research reports from reputable firms, and look at insider buying patterns.
Barron's also has some wonderful editors who write in a manner that makes the reading enjoyable and easily understood. Thankfully, since many people do not have the knowledge to decipher a lot of what is said in financial publications.
And, finally, Barron's is not owned by a mutual fund company or a brokerage. They are independent and can offer advice that has not been influenced by others. I would strongly suggest picking up a copy at a newsstand and determining whether or not Barron's would be helpful in assisting you to reach your financial goals. I know it has helped me.
