School Can Be Fun!

If you are expecting some out of this world fantastic children’s show, this is not the DVD for you. Barney - Lets’t Play School is a nice, pleasant show, but it is basically the same as any other Barney production in that Barney, BJ and Baby Bop interact with the the four children to sing songs and learn a few things.

When Barney sings with Jeff, Ashley, Robert and Hannah about their day at school, Baby Bop becomes sad since she is not old enough to attend school. The answer of course is to play school, with Baby Bop as the teacher, and one additional student: BJ.

Baby Bop has them sing old favorites like “Itsy Bitsy Spider,” and “Where is Thumbkin,” as well as songs about the alphabet, reading, numbers, colors and shapes. They act out the story of “Little Yellow Riding Hood” - yellow because that is Baby Bop’s favorite color and the color of her blanket. Baby Bop is also the “Cafeteria Lady” (who serves only macaroni & cheese dishes) as well as the “Coach” for gym class.

The DVD version of this movie contains bonus material in addition to the show itself:

Read Along - where the words and pictures of the story “Barney’s Animal Friends” are on the screen and you can either have it silent or have Barney read the words.

Sing Along - which replays the video clips of some of the songs from this show.

Interactive Area - games to be played on your PC. The five games are fairly simple: a coloring book, connect the dots, solitaire, counting and what comes next. There are also links to the websites for Barney, The Wiggles and Wishbone

Sing Along - which consists of audio playing with only a still picture of one of the characters on the screen.

Special Features - where you can choose subtitles, select certain chapters to watch or see previews and behind the scenes footage.


My son was apprehensive about attending preschool and we thought that he would feel more comfortable if characters that he was familiar with were playing school. Unfortunately we did not receive this DVD before his school year began, but he enjoys watching it just the same - and even without it he adjusted beautifully to preschool!
