Great product for skin with few blemishes

Date of Review: Mar 24, 2008

The Bottom Line:  Yes ? I love this product, but only recommended for those with few blemishes.
Bare Escentuals is the company behind bareMinerals, a natural, mineral-based line of cosmetics that promises a healthy and natural-looking complexion with no preservatives or chemicals.

I had rarely worn foundation before using Bare Escentuals, and chose it because it's natural, and I didn't like the idea of goopy liquid foundations clogging my pores. bareMinerals makeup is 100% pure; they claim so healthy for your skin, you can sleep in it.

The light/fairly light kit comes with two pots of foundation, one in light, and one in fairly light. My skin is very fair, and burns easily. I couldn't really use the fairly light it was too much color for my face and looked unnatural. So, I burned through the fair color quickly, and I've barely used the fairly light.

In fact, if you have very fair, rosy skin, it may be more cost-effective to just purchase the foundation, mineral veil and blush separately. That way you can choose the colors that suit you. Every other piece that came with the kit is almost unused. The warmth is somewhat strong for my complexion as well, and I probably wouldn't have bought three brushes.

All that being said, I love bareMinerals foundation. I didn't realize how much I loved it until I ran out of it, bought a less expensive liquid foundation, and truly missed the powder. I switched to liquid thinking it might reduce the look of flakiness of my skin during the winter. WRONG! While wearing bareMinerals, I got consistent compliments on my skin, and noticed in pictures how even-toned and healthy I looked. They say in the infomercials that this product almost has the consistency of a cream on your skin. This isn't true; make sure you're well-moisturized to get the most out of this product.

WHAT YOU GET:

2 shades of bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation:
- With this kit, you get fair, and fairly light. Fair is the lighter color. Fairly light seems to be more yellow. If you have very blemished skin, I wouldn't recommend this product.

Mineral Veil finishing powder
- I ran out of this first. It is essentially a translucent finishing powder. No complaints, but nothing to rave over, either.

Warmth All-Over Face Color
- This probably works well with darker skin tones, but my pale skin is too fair for it.

Flawless Application Face Brush
- This is an all-purpose brush. It is the largest of the set. The bristles are soft, and the brush handle is sturdy.

Handy Buki Brush
- This brush's bristles are more compact, which make it useful for heavier coverage. I use this brush over blemishes and on my nose and chin.

Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush
- A small brush with soft, short bristles good for covering pimples; I also use this for eye shadow and soft eyeliner.

How-to-Use Guide
- You'll read this once. It's fairly useful, but catching the infomercial or watching online is better.
