Back to Basics Elite Food Smoothie Blender
Date of Review: Jul 9, 2006
The Bottom Line: This a was a very good product for the price. No bells and whistles but worked well.
I bought the Back to Basics Elite Food Smoothie Blast Blender for one or two basic uses, really one. I'm a Starbucks Frappacino addict and I decided I could probably save money just blending my own Starbucks drink at home. It also gave me the convenience of whipping a frapp up anytime I wanted one . I still go to Starbucks but I live up North and the weather isn't always conducive to running out for a drink.
Ever frugal I went looking for a decent inexpensive blender. I only wanted it for Smoothies after all. I have an in the door ice machine in my fridge, I didn't even expect the machine to chop the ice.
The Back to Basics Elite Food Smoothie Blast Blender was $19.99 at Wal Mart. It had a 350 watt motor. It came in white so it went with my kitchen well enough. The Pitcher held enough for 2 servings. It even had a cute little spout for delivering the mix once it was blended. It fit all my needs. I brought it home and got to work.
The simple instructions said :Remove lid, Press container firmly into place. Choose your serving size (1 or 2).
Add your frozen ingredients and ice. Remove cap, lock lid into place, place stir stick in lid hole. Press on and let run for 45 seconds. It's suggested you rotate the stir stick. Put your cup under that cute little spout, press down on thumb tab. Close valve and turn machine off. To clean dispenser valve run water through it while machine is on. Not very complicated. It actually sounds much more complicated when you break it down like this.
I did read the instructions but somehow overlooked that part where you have to keep the motor running to release the concoction thru the serve valve. So, mechanical me, I thought it was broken but just kept using the Back to Basics Elite Food Smoothie anyway and poured my drink from the top's spout or I would drink it out of the pitcher and save cleaning up a glass.
Do not wash the Back to Basics Elite Food Smoothie in dishwasher. That part I remembered.
For thicker smoothies add more frozen ingredients. Included in the package is a deck of great little recipes for Smoothies using fresh frozen fruits like bananas or pineapple, nectar, ice cream or sherbert or fresh juices.
Back to Basics Elite Food Smoothie Blast Blender was simple, easy and worked well. That is until hubby decided to clean it. Granted when he showed me what gunk had accumulated in the o ring and other areas I had to agree I was probably drinking Frappa- bacteriacinnos.
Well, he dismantled my Back to Basics Elite Food Smoothie Blast Blender machine and suddenly things got REALLY quiet in the kitchen. He came out of the kitchen with a bunch of plastic fragments. Somehow he had snapped this a mig, and forced that a ma jig and my machine was kaput (technical term for broken garbage or kitchen appliance pummeled until terminated).
Up until then it had been a good $19.99 investment. It has a one year warranty but my circumstances weren't something I could expect to be covered for and it was well over a year anyway.
