Not the Best of Baby Einstein
Date of Review: Apr 26, 2008
The Bottom Line: Some of the same toys are used in this film that I've seen in others, it just didn't cut it.
My 21 month old daughter has watched Baby Einstein for quite awhile and has learned quite a bit from the video series, but Baby VanGogh doesn't quite make it if you ask me. My daughter has learned baby sign language and numbers at a very early age thanks to some of the Disney collection, but she hasn't really picked up colors, and if you watch this video you see why. For the most part it shows things accurately, but for instance, at one moment when the video is describing and trying to teach yellow, there is a little girl licking an orange and then she says the word yellow. When it teaches blue, a puppet sprinkles glitter into a bowl and then drinks it, which I find not to be the best thing to teach babies. I feel like this movie is not up to par with some of the other videos you can get out there. I would recommend buying Number Nursery or Baby's 1st Signs. Discovering Shapes worked really well too, but this video makes me think that Disney just wanted to hurry up and get another video out. Baby Einstein can be helpful, but this video really isn't. I'd focus on colors directly with your child.
