Baby your baby with Baby Bjorn

The Bottom Line: I have tried several potty chairs and potty seats, this is simply the best.
I currently have two children in my day care that are between the ages of two and three – and just ripe for potty training! This is definitely one of the things that I like least about day care, because there a re a lot of messes before children get the hang of using the potty. I try to eliminate as many as I can before they happen.
One helpful tool I have found is the Baby Bjorn Toilet Trainer. I have tried traditional potty chairs, especially with my own children and I have found that this is a better alternative. I really believe that toddlers get a bit confused as to why everyone else uses the big potty, but they can't. This seat allows a child to use an adult toilet while still being very secure. What it does, in essence, is to make the seat smaller and more secure for the child.
The Baby Bjorn Toilet Trainer is actually PVC plastic seat that fits on top of your existing toilet seat. There is an easy to use dial that you use to adjust the seat to make it fit securely to your existing seat. What it actually has is spreaders on the bottom of the seat, and turning the dial makes the open more or less, thus making the seat fit more tightly against the existing toilet seat. Very easy to do and at the same time it allows the child to feel very secure on the seat because it doesn't move while the child is using it.
Another feature of this seat is one that I have never used, but there is a loop on the back of the seat so you can hang it in your bathroom. We have always kept it under the sink or beside the actual commode (for when the kids are bigger and can place it on themselves). I personally wouldn't want to go into a bathroom that has a seat hanging on the wall like some type of strange bathroom decoration! I suppose if one is lucky enough to have a closet in the bathroom that you could hand it on the inside of the closet, but I have never been fortunate enough for that.
What I like about this seat is that it is one piece and is easy to clean. I have had potty seats in the past that we really difficult to clean, but I have never had a problem with my Baby Bjorn Toilet Trainer. I always wiped it down after each use and disinfected with bleach water at least every other day or so.
I also like the fact that the children can use the regular commode for doing their business. I really believe that this makes a difference in potty training. It has always been easier for me to use this seat than a potty chair. Once a child is big enough to use the regular seat, there is no huge transition between potty chair and big kid potty either. Anything that reduces my work load is considered a big plus.
The packaging that comes with this seat says that it is for children ages 2 to 6 years. I would think that most children would be using the potty without the help of the Baby Bjorn Toilet Trainer long before they are 6, but it is nice to know that if your child is exceptionally small, he or she could still feel like a big kid with the aid of this seat.
I really don't have anything negative at all to say about this seat except for the pricing. I bought mine on sale for $22.00 a couple of years ago. I know they cost more than that now. In fact, it is right at $30.00 at Amazon.com. These seats are durable though and while I quibbled at the price when I bought it, it has been well worth the investment.
