Author's Review
I had seen this type of stroller after my second child was born, and unfortunately after I'd already purchased a traditional double stroller. I couldn't justify buying another stroller at that point, but when I was pregnant with my third child, I decided the time was right. I had a hard time finding it, and even after finding it online had to wait several weeks for it to be delivered since it was backordered. I think since that time it has been somewhat easier to find, but even with the wait it was SO worth it!
Here are the pluses:
Easier to maneuver than traditional double strollers
I always found the double stroller hard to push around in tight spaces, even the mall and such. The Sit N Stand is so much easier though, and even though it's obviously bigger than a single stroller, I find it handles much more like a single than a double. It turns well and can be parked in a smaller spot than a double.
Can handle 3 kids if needed
While I'm sure we've pushed the weight limit at times, we have upon occasion put all three kids (now 6,4, and 2 years) on the stroller for quick exits or to move them safely through crowded areas. We put the youngest in the front and then the older kids use both the rear seat and the standing platform. A little tight for any kind of extended use, but has definitely helped me out a few times.
Able to be used with most infant carrier/carseats
The stroller comes with an attachment and instructions for proper installation depending on the brand/model of infant seat you have. The directions were very clear and allow you the convenience of snapping the infant seat in and out regardless of the brand (we used with a Graco Snugride).
Easier to get older children to ride in the back
While our kids never want much to do with strollers by the time they're 2, sometimes they do get tired or we need them to be in the stroller while we're out. With one child on the back, they have much more room and feel less restrained than in a traditional single or double stroller, and they have the choice of sitting or standing. So they're more comfortable and also feel less baby-ish than in a regular stroller.
Overall, a fantastic stroller, but of course there's always room for improvement, so here's some of the drawbacks:
Still very bulky in the car
While the stroller does feel smaller than a traditional double stroller in use, I find it takes up just as much room in the back of the minivan. It's something I think you just have to accept when you have younger kids, but I know it's a tight squeeze when we try to put it in my husband's smaller car, so if trunk or car space is an issue, make sure you have room for it (though I'm not sure any stroller that accommodates 2 kids is much smaller).
No parent tray
I don't really understand why anyone would design a stroller with no space for a parent to at least set a drink. I don't mind not having room for much else, but it is somewhat difficult to push the stroller while holding a drink, especially once the baby is a toddler and heavier than a newborn.
Not good if older child is much younger than 3
This wasn't an issue for us since our older children were almost 5 and 3 when our third was born, but I don't think most kids under age 3 (or at least close to that mark) sit still enough to really be safe on the back bench seat or standing. I'm sure there are exceptions, but for a kid who may try to get off unexpectedly or not sit really well, the back could be unsafe. Just use your judgment when deciding if your child is mature enough.
As I said, this is a great stroller, and it's still going strong after 2 years of use. I highly recommend it for anyone with an older child in addition to a baby or young toddler.
