Author's Review
When I was expecting my first child in 2005, my husband and I went on an exhaustive search, as many first time parents do, for the perfect baby gear. We wanted a "travel system" - a car seat that would fit into a stroller. It was important to us that the handle on the car seat be comfortable, and that it was easy to place the seat in the car and remove it.
The base comes with the LATCH system, which made us feel much safer. The system on this particular base is very easy to tighten, and also easy to release, should you need to move the base. That said, once it is tightened, the base is very secure.
The seat itself is quite safe, with high sides and good padding. The cover is easy to remove to be washed, if needed. It is also easy to adjust the straps as your child grows. I have gotten many compliments from people who have to hook and unhook the center part of the straps (the top connector, at chest level), especially from anyone with long and/or acrylic nails, because it doesn't require a squeeze, like other car seats do, but you simply push the button in and slide the two pieces apart. The bottom buckle has two pieces that line up and then snap in together. It is very easy to secure your child in the seat, and also to remove them from the seat. There is also a convenient strap at the bottom to tighten the straps.
The seat hooks into the base very well, but also doesn't take much effort to get the seat out. Also, in the event that you'd like to take your child into another car, and not have to move the base, the seat has slots where you can thread a seatbelt through, to secure the seat without the base.
The best part is the triangle-shaped handle. It is more comfortable to carry than traditional horizontal handles, or the new handles that require your hand to be sideways. On the days when I find myself carrying the seat around longer than expected, it is nice to be able to vary my grip.
Overall, this is a great car seat, and we are getting ready to use it for our third child. It has held up incredibly well (we used it for six months with our first child, and about two months with the second) and we expect it to outlast baby #3 as well.
