Author's Review
Being somewhat of a tightwad by nature, and given how much having a newborn costs in the base case, I was hesitant to spend $75 on something of a luxury item for the baby. However, I am happy to say that, in retrospect, I'm glad that I caved in to my wife's wishes on this one.
We bought the Baby Bjorn carrier for several reasons. We wanted to be able to do a lot of things together and take the baby along without having to deal with a bulky stroller or car seat carrier - go on walks, go to the grocery store, get on flights to go see grandma and grandpa, go to baseball games, etc. So far, the Baby Bjorn carrier has been ideal for all of these things.
The carrier fits perfectly, with only minor adjustment, on me or my wife. My wife is about 5'7" with an average build. I am about 5'11" and slightly thinner than average. Both of us can wear the carrier for hours at a time with only minimal discomfort. The baby loves sitting in it, because it gives her good support, she is up close to my body or my wife's body so she keeps warm and comforted, she can look around and see things, she can constantly hear our voices, and the motion of walking is very comforting to her.
The first time I put the carrier on, it scared me a bit, only because I naturally felt like I needed to have both hands supporting my baby. My wife pointed out to me that the whole point of the carrier is to be able to be hands-free. It took me a little while to get comfortable with the notion that I don't need to hold on to her for safety's sake - it's a bit awkward at first. But trust me, once you get used to this carrier, it's fantastic.
Highly recommended.
