540i 6-speed: Superman-feeling for mere mortals.

by   shizzle ,  May 24, 2004
Pros: All of the superlatives have long since been exhausted when describing this car!
Cons: Difficult sport seats, occasional suspension and cabin shudder/shiver, rear deck rattle, standard tires
The Bottom Line: If you can afford the possible and potentially expensive repairs then this should be the true 4-door sport sedan that tops your list!
Review: I am willing to predict you will fall in love with this car! First for background regarding this purchase, I originally purchased an Audi A6. See the original review here: ...

Measure The Growth Of Your Dot.Com With This: BMW M5

by   charles ,  May 1, 2000
Pros: Luxury, many steps up in the right direction, motivation vehicle for dot.comers, reliable and fast
Cons: Very expensive
Review: The two-door BMW sport car is designed for the sport-oriented type, the upward mobile dot-com guy and girl. If you are a large family that can afford the 4-door Sedan, you'd better go for the M5, powered by a V8 engine. I had the privilege of riding...

M5: An Owners Perspective

by   montulli ,  Apr 7, 2000
Pros: Perfect combination of luxury sedan and world class sports car
Cons: Hard to get
Review: I first heard about the M5 in 1998 when I was in the market for an M3 convertible. At that time there were rumors about a 400 horse power engine and the ultimate stealth car. If only I had been smart enough to put a deposit down for one right then and...

The BMW E39 540i 6 Speed - The Ultimate Stealth Machine

by   asawadude ,  Jul 16, 2003
Pros: The perfect solution for a middle-aged boy racer.
Cons: Constantly looking for cops in the rear view mirror.
The Bottom Line: The BMW E39 540i 6-speed is the poor man's version of the E39 M5 and the perfect stealth vehicle for the man who is having a mid-life crisis.

Pros: Performance, luxury, power, and can seat up to five.

Review: The new BMW M5 combines extreme performance and supreme luxury in one masterpiece of a car. BMW outdoes itself again with the production of the M5. The M5 produces 394 hp and 368 lb of torque. Making it the most powerful BMW on the market. The M5 comes...

M5 The Power and the Glory

by   barrym5 ,  Jan 11, 2004
Pros: Power, transmission, comfort, handling, excitment
Cons: oil consumption and possible technical problems. The heavy cost of maintenance.
The Bottom Line: If you love performance cars and are put off by the comfort and practicality buy an M5.
Review: In purchasing an M5 I had read many reviews and being a cynical ex-race driver from the uk, believed only that by driving one day in and day out would the real truth come out. And the truth is this is one of the most astounding sport sedans ever ...

The fastest sedan in the world

by   fuzzy-logic ,  Dec 31, 2001
Pros: Fast, luxurious, stylish, roomy
Cons: high end cars have high end price tags
The Bottom Line: If you can afford it, there is no alternative. but watch out for the cops, cause they sure will be watching out for you.
Review: My dad said "i'll take it" at the BMW dealership, having been there no longer than 15 minutes. it must have been the fastest sale of a $70,000 car that salesman had ever done.

He was looking at the mercedes CLK, and was also...

by   tompee ,  Aug 16, 2000
Pros: Eveything about this car!
Cons: The wait
Review: Imagine you and your family (yes your family) snuggled safetly in the leather seats of you new BMW M5 as you conquer the twists and turns of Highway at night with your XENON lighting clearing the night away, traveling a speedy 90 mph at a low 2100 rpms....

Absolutely everything considered? The ULTIMATE vehicle.

by   ndahbar ,  Feb 15, 2000
Pros: Everything
Cons: Not as bullet-proof reliability-wise in the electrical switch department; Might seem a tad too compact for some
Review: This review applies to all years of the latest 5-series model. That represents years '96 and up if I'm not mistaken.

I have a review of the 7-series BMW, and pretty much all my thoughts apply to this model line. However, there are a few...
