I was gifted with a plethora of pens this Christmas but out of all of them the Bic Pro+ stood out when compared to the others. Boasting an Italian design and rubber comfort grip, the Pro+ not only looks great, it writes perfectly and has a smooth ink flow. The design of a pen doesnt mean all that much to me as long as the ink is high quality, it doesnt smudge and the barrel doesnt fall apart. Bic claims that these are refillable but I have yet to see the Pro+ refills anywhere. If you are in it for the visual side of things the Pro+ wont disappoint you. The feel is nice, its perfectly weighted and the comfort grip doesnt attract dirt or dust like some others. I won't say that this is the best pen on the market but so far it is getting some high marks from me.
Bic Pro+ Ball Point Pen
Unlike most pens that have a rubber comfort grip, this one covers most of the bottom half of the pen, not just the bottom section. That means that no matter how you write or how you hold your pen, you are going to get an extremely smooth write. About the only disadvantage of the comfort grip is that there is a slight indent or cusp at the bottom near the metal housing. This can mean a slight adjustment period when you first start writing with it but it isn't something that is going to cause a lot of issues if you stick with it for a couple of minutes.
This is a retractable pen so you wont have to worry about losing caps; the clicking action is smooth and quiet so if you have people around the office that click pens constantly, get them a few of these so they won't ride your last nerve. You can unscrew the Pro+ easily to swap out the pen cartridges however finding the specific Pro+ refills is nearly impossible. When I called Bic they said that you could use any standard refill for this pen but I prefer to go with the 'official' refill.
The overall look of the Pro+ is nice; the barrels are all one singular color so there is no color confusion when reaching for one in a drawer. It comes in four basic colors so far; black, blue, red and green. Another great perk to this pen is the solid design; a few of these ended up getting dropped on the floor and stepped on and the barrels showed no signs of stress or cracking. Not only do they look great but they hold up to a good bit of use and abuse.
You can write on any type of paper with this and skipping won't be a problem. On textured paper you may notice a little bit of line jumping but that is the case with most ball point pens. I've used this on vellum, loose leaf and copy paper and have had no problems with the ink drying quickly and no cases of smudging. All four of the colors are bold and strong; the black is a true black, not a washed out "almost black" ink. The green is mid tone, more of a hunter or emerald than a standard forest green. The red and blue inks are standard and suitable for all types of writing.
What can you expect to pay for a Pro+ pen? I have only seen them sold in the two pack [same color, two pens] and they were selling for $2.19. Not a bad price for two quality pens but I am going to hold out until Bic releases a four pack with one of each color in the pack. I received the Pro+ pens as a gift so I have no idea what the giver spent on them but what ever it was, I can say that they were definitely worth it as they are some of the best pens that this freak has come across in years.
The Bottom Line
If you are a pen junkie that loves pens with a strong but soft comfort grip then the Pro+ is something that you need to look for. I love strong and solid colors of the ink and that it dries quickly. You can use this for taking notes, general letter writing and quick notes but it has the staying power to keep up with you whether you write a little or write a lot. This is also great for people who have hand or gripping problems. The barrel isnt oversized but the rubber comfort grip allows you to write smoothly without cramping.
As always, thanks for the visit
