Fluorescent Quality Provides Lighter Color

As a teacher, I've had an opportunity to use a lot of highlighter products. I'm continually drawn to the Avery line of products because of their quality and consistency.

I've popped new highlighters of other brands right out of the blister pack to find that they were nearly dried out.

This has never been the case with an Avery product. They seem to always be "fresh."

I use different color highlighters for different purposes. I find them helpful to "color-code" my gradebook. We have to differentiate between homework and class work and project grades and it's very helpful for me to assign colors.

The fluorescent yellow highlighter is slightly different from the yellow barrel highlighter. The marker body itself is thinner. The color of the ink is a lighter, brighter yellow that is devoid of any orange tone. This marker is simple to use, with a wide chisel tip that allows the user to cover a complete line of text with a smooth and easy motion. The ink flows very smoothly from the chisel tip. The ink in this highlighter seems to be slightly more fluid than the regular yellow and appears to me to dry a little bit slower.

As a student, I was never without highlighters. I was older when I finished my degree and found that being the mother of four and working three jobs that I needed helpful study aids. I'm a kinesthetic learner. Part of training to be an educator is learning to recognize and facilitate different learning styles. I retain information much better if my hand interacts with the material in some way. I found that during my reading if I highlighted pertinent text (using my hand to travel over the writing) that I found it easy to return to the high points when studying for a test, or to aid in writing papers.

The Glidestick fluorescent highlighter does not last as long as its barrel counterpart, but I've found that I prefer the brighter color. I can usually find this product at most neighborhood drug stores and at larger chain stores.

I generally pay a bit more for this than for the non-fluorescent yellow, but I like the brighter color, and the fluidity of the ink. I just blow on the page for a few seconds before I turn it. The brighter color really pops out visually and does not obscure the highlighted text in any way.
