Author's Review
I first read about this product on Epinions a couple weeks ago. When I saw it at Geoffrey's (a Toys R Us, Kids R Us, Babies R Us all in one) I was ecstatic. I own a Medela Harmony pump and an Ameda Purely Yours electric pump. I've been using the Avent bottles with my daughter since she was three months, prior to that she was too little for the nipples. This conversion kit makes my life SO MUCH EASIER! The ability to be able to pump directly into an Avent bottle with any pump is a true blessing!
Product Description...
The Avent breast pump conversion kit comes with the following items:
1 Breast Pump Adaptor
1 Silicone Ring
1 Dome Cap
1 Screw ring
2 Newborn nipples
1 Sealing Disk
2 4oz Feeding/Milk Storage Bottles
4 Disposable Breast Pads
The way this kit works is simple. Making sure you put the silicone ring in the adaptor, you just screw the adaptor onto any Avent bottle and then screw the pump onto the top of the adaptor. It is important to remember that you MUST have the silicone ring between the bottle and the adaptor to ensure proper suction for your pump. Once you are done pumping you can either store it using the screw ring and sealing disk, or feed it directly to baby using one of the two nipples provided.
What I Love...
What's not to love?! The first thing I love is the price. I looked into average cost of all the things sold separately that come in this kit:
2 4oz bottles approx. $8.00
1 sealing disk approx. $0.75
2 sets of disposable nursing pads approx. $0.40
2 newborn nipples $3.50
2 4oz breast milk storage containers approx. $6.00
Obviously you wouldn't add all of those prices together, because, as I said it's just the approximate price of each of the individual items sold on their own. Also, I've done the math and just given the approximate cost of the items in the box. For instance, the sealing disks actually come in packs of six, and the breast pads in boxes of 40 or 100, and the milk storage containers in packs of four.
I am not sure as to what the cost of the adaptor or the silicone ring are individually as they are not sold that way. I would have paid the $9.99 for these two parts alone just for the convenience it offers!
Another great thing is that you can pump your milk into ANY Avent container: 4 and 9 ounce bottles, the disposable nurser, the Avent VIA system and the Magic Cups.
Lastly, one of the most important things for me...I have always had trouble pumping milk so any I am able to express is like liquid gold. When I have to pump into a regular bottle and then transfer that milk to an Avent bottle I end up wasting the milk that always seems to stick to the inside of the bottle. Another thing is, the more you transfer the milk from container to container the more likely it is to be contaminated by something.
Dislikes...
My dislikes for this product are few. My main complaint is that they don't sell a double conversion kit. It would have been nice to be able to buy a double kit since most moms use a double electric pump, especially working moms pumping for baby while away.
My other complaint is that if they are going to send two nipples and two bottles they should send two screw rings and two sealing disks.
In Conclusion...
Aside from the fact that I have to go out later to purchase a second kit to accommodate my electric pump, this product is fantastic. If you like Avent bottles like my daughter and I do, and you don't have an Isis pump, get one of these kits!
