Great Breast Pump for Occasional Use

I purchased one of these pumps for my first child, and purchased ANOTHER for my second. The reason for owning two was because it takes a while to hand wash, sterilize, and put back together the pieces of the pump. And with a new baby at home, there isn't exactly much free time for dishwashing.

I have tried another brand of manual breast pump (Evenflo-see my review) and it was horrible. This pump works great. It fits comfortably against the breast and you can adjust the suction by simply letting up on the hand lever. The pump comes with a comfort liner that lines the part that touches your body, a special suction valve (plus extra since they can be lost easily), a piece to connect the pump to the bottle, and a cover for both ends of the pump should you travel with it. I personally never used the covers because I stay at home. But the covers are useful because once the pump is sterilized, you can maintain cleanliness if you are not going to use it for a while.

For those who have not pumped before: you don't have to continuously pump and pump to express milk. With this pump, you can establish a flow of milk and hold the pump at that level of suction. So don't worry too much about hand fatigue. I tried a Medela electric pump in the hospital and it was very uncomfortable because there was no control to the suction. With this pump, you can vary it to suit your comfort level and milk expression rate.

I probably used this pump every day for the first two months of my two children's life. I just gave one of them to my cousin, who has been using it for months. They are extremely durable.

Don't worry if you are choosing to use another bottle system like Dr Brown. Just pour the expressed milk into the other bottle! There is no need to committ to the Avent bottles if you use this pump.
