Short lived machine
Date of Review: Jan 31, 2009
The Bottom Line: Don't buy the Avanti unless you want tangled clothes and a broken machine after one year.
This Avanti W797 machine worked well except for the faucet hook up problem described below and then died after one year. The pump went out and the water wouldn't empty. I did do about 4 loads of laundry a week, so it was put to the test. When it died, I called several appliance repair places to get it fixed and found that no one fixes this brand. They said the cost to repair it usually was close to what the machine was worth. However, we still wanted to fix it rather than add to land fill. We called the distributor and he would only give help after we threatened to go on Yelp with a negative review. He suggested Sears, but they don't service Avanti. So we called Avanti and they had an outdated repair referral list and the next repair guy was 25 miles away who we didn't bother calling because the travel call would be too much. The AvantiĀ phone service was not good until we asked for a supervisor andĀ who got back to us with the repair shop that was far away. We live in San Francisco so it's not like we're out in the boonies. There should be better service support. I wouldn't buy this machine again. The other problems are that the hook up to the faucet always sprayed water, the clothes got very twisted and tangled and were hard to pull out, even tho described as a low tangle washer. The plus: easy to move, good spin cycles, nice sound to the electronic controls and cheap. But you get what you pay for. Now we are buying a GE or a Kenmore.
