Author's Review
I admit that I was a little skeptical when I was buying this album. "Pieces of Me" was a catchy single, but it wasn't a great song to me - but I am an Ashlee fan and I enjoyed her MTV series so I thought 'what the heck' and purchased the album. I am SO glad I did. Ashlee's debut album is full of creativity and great 'break-up' songs. It's an amazing cd full of things from pop to acoustic to alt. rock.
1. Autobiography - Very raunchy cute song. Her scratchy voice really hits the spot. (8.5)
2. Pieces of Me - Cute and catchy, but not my favorite. It's an acoustic set. (7)
3. Shadow - I love this song. It starts off as a soft ballad and ends up with a rocking tune. She does a great and unique vocal performance. (8)
4. LaLa - This was instantly my favorite song on the cd when I first bought it. The drums are so great and loud. This is the rock song you guys are looking for. (9.5)
5. Love Makes the World Go Round - While this song has a bit of a cheesy tune, her lyrics suggest otherwise. I love the way she sings it, but I don't like the way it starts out. (7)
6. Better Off - Definitly my least favorite song on the album. It's too Hilary Duff. (5)
7. Love For Me - Love, love, love this song. So unique and rock 'n roll. It's kinda the new wave of rock, her voice is messed with a lot, but I have no problem with it. It just goes better with the song. (9)
8. Surrender - Love the verses, hate the chorus. (6)
9. Unreachable - This is the song that took some getting used to, but I warmed up to it quite quickly. It's lovely. (8.5)
10. Nothing New - Another one of my favorites on the album. The lyrics really get to me in this one ("Oh, I can only be myself / I'm sorry that's hell for you.") Her vocals are wonderful and the music is awesome. It starts off like an acoustic Michelle Branch tune and then goes into a Katy Rose/Garbage vibe. Very good. (9.5)
11. Giving it All Away - Just simply amazing yet again. The lyrics, the music, the vocals, the style are just completely nsync with eachother. (9)
12. Undiscovered - Great way to end the album. I love the end of this song the best. (8)
Overall Rating - 8.7
This album is really worth your money. Buy it now. I personally don't think she sounds anything like Avril Lavigne, its more a Garbage/Gwen Stefani style. If your into that you should check out this cd. If your still not sure you can download some clips from her official site.
