Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Strangler

by   siddy ,  Dec 9, 2006
Pros: Ebert and Roeper was right on this one.
Cons: Repeated use of the word "troll" as a verb
The Bottom Line: Four years and $60K worth of art education condensed into 102 fun filled minutes. Watch it and save money.
Review: "I would say that art school was to me what Vietnam was for Oliver Stone..." -Daniel Clowes, Screenplay **Minor Spoilers Ahead* Having attended and dropped out of art school myself, the title of this movie was both repellent and intriguing. ...

Confidential is full of Cliche's.

by   jediempressmel ,  May 21, 2006
Pros: accurate portrayal of the stereotypes, great style.
Cons: may not be funny to some, the end is odd.
The Bottom Line: If you have been to art school, and like dark satire, then you should see this movie. The events aren't really probable, but worth the watch.
Review: This review contains big plot spoilers, so if that will bother you, please stop reading now. Inadvertantly spoiling movies for people isn't my thing. Jerome is a tortured artist of a sort. He has never had a girlfriend, his only friend is the ...

I Think Your Film is Too... Pretentious... Oh Shut Up Hack!

by   thevoid99 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Dec 17, 2006
Pros: Zwigoff's Direction, Clowes' Script, Look, Locations, Satire, Caricatures, Music, & Cast.
Cons: Lacks a Bit of Suspense & A Bit Predictable.
The Bottom Line: Art School Confidential is a Witty, Hilarious Satire on the Art World by Terry Zwigoff & Co.
Review: Known for his eccentric films like the 1994 documentary Crumb and 2001's bleak comedy Ghost World, Terry Zwigoff was hailed as a director who gave voice to the outsiders. While his first two films were widely acclaimed and were modest ...

The Bottom Line: A must see for artists or graduates of an art college! Funny and thought provoking.

"A.S.C. is Funny and Shows A True Passion For Art"

by   zenmachado ,  Dec 22, 2006
Pros: Ethan Suplee is great in this comedy, as a film major.
Cons: The ending is rather flacid.
Review: "Art School Confidential" is a really good movie in that it shows great passion for art. Now, it may be a comedy but I commend it for really showing how many times art.. and I mean true art goes unappreciated. Now, let me first state that this film's ...

ART SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL: "Jerome, You Could Be Another *Eugenio de Arnal!!"

by   macresarf1 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  May 9, 2006
Pros: Mood. Satire. Parody. Great cast. Funny lines and images. Art controversies.
Cons: Some may find the pace too slow. Others may prefer Zwigoff's GHOST WORLD. Art controversies.
The Bottom Line: Terry Zwigoff's second Daniel Clowes collaboration: a satire of the Art World, with 1950's vibes. Neither so subtle as GHOST WORLD, nor so outrageous as BAD SANTA, but amusing.
Review: So you want to become a great WRITER? So you want to become a renowned COMPOSER? So you want to become an admired FILM MAKER? The answer is as easy as one, two, three . . . . First, you need drive, ambition. Second, you need something to ...
