Author's Review
Elizabeth Arden is a company that I've had both good luck and bad luck with - I've been disappointed in some of their products, but have loved others. Over the course of the past several years, I have gotten away from them almost completely, with the exception of a 1.7 oz. spray bottle of Red Door Eau de Parfum.
While Red Door is no longer my favorite scent, I find that I do wear it a few times a month and feel like I must buy a new bottle when I run out. There are a lot of good memories tied to the scent for me!
The Scent
The scents used in Red Door include ylang-ylang, peach, plum, jasmine, lily of the valley and musk. I think that the lily of the valley presence is very strong - I would definitely classify Red Door as a white floral scent.
Red Door is not a "new" or "trendy" scent at all. It's not sweet, herbal or very fruity like some newer scents. I can sum it up as being a "classic", floral scent with a touch of fruit and musk.
Red Door is perfect for daytime. I have used this scent for years (10 plus) and in any office I have worked in, have received loads of compliments. I have also used it for evening, but have found that it suits me better in the daytime. If the subtle musk note were not included in this scent, it would probably be a daytime scent in my eyes. It is just deep enough and intriguing enough to be good for evening.
When used with Red Door Perfumed Body Lotion, the white floral scent of Red Door definitely deepens. To me, Red Door always smelled better and sexier when layered over the Perfumed Body Lotion.
The scent of Red Door definitely lingers. As you go through your day, the scent definitely gets better. While leaving work at 4 PM and going into the parking lot, I've had co-workers compliment me on my scent, so I think that Red Door does a good job of lasting through the day. Of course, it helps to use Eau de Parfum instead of Eau de Toilette, as Eau de Parfum is stronger in scent.
Product Details:
Red Door was introduced in 1989 by Elizabeth Arden. The 1.7 oz. Eau de Parfum spray comes in a clear, glass, square bottle that measures 5.25" tall. It is somewhat "door shaped", although the glossy red and gold box it comes in is shaped more like a door. The cap is hard red plastic and is rounded on top. The words "Elizabeth Arden" are embossed on the gold band around the lid.
The spray function of Red Door Eau de Parfum is a normal pump spray. The Eau de Parfum spritzes out and is not an aerosol-type of spray.
You can find accompanying products for Red Door, including Perfumed Body Lotion, Perfumed Shower Gel and Perfumed Talc. Elizabeth Arden offers gift sets that include, for example, a bottle of Eau de Parfum and a tube of body lotion for a special price - sometimes the price is so good that it's like getting the lotion or other accompanying product for free.
At times, you can also find a small bottle of Red Door or a small tube of Body Lotion in a "Gift With Purchase" set.
Who Would Like This Fragrance?
Thinking back to my early 20's, I find it hard to believe that I liked this scent back then. Then again, it wasn't the age of body sprays and fruity or "food" scents. I feel that this scent is very womanly and would most likely not be worn by a young girl in the year 2002. But, because everyone is different, I have to say that's just my opinion!
Price and Purchasing Information:
You can find the 1.7 oz. Eau de Parfum Spray for about $25 at your local Elizabeth Arden counter. You can also find it and/or other versions (such as Eau de Toilette) at various prices online at JcPenney.com, Walmart.com and Perfumania.com. The accompanying body products are a little harder to find online but you can always find a full selection at your local Elizabeth Arden counter.
