Product Review

Bad Product, Bad Company

by   speedomax ,   Dec 22, 2005

Pros:  Easily connects to computer and easily transfers files.

Cons:  Bad support from the company and just an overall bad product.

The Bottom Line:  Don't buy anything from Archos, ever!

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

The only good thing I can say about this mp3 player is that it is easy to transfer files. When you connect it to your computer it shows up like an additional hard drive, from there you can just drag and drop, or copy and paste. Now that, thats out of the way, I've had nothing but problems with this thing. When I bought the AV120, I also purchased the FM recorder/remote. The first one I had worked ok for a couple of months until I tried to update the firmware, after that it wouldn't boot up. I argued with the guy on the phone (the only guy that answers when you call Archos tech support) until he agreed to replace my AV120 under warranty. The new one I got worked ok at first but then things started going wrong. The battery doesn't even last 5 min any more, I can charge it for hours or even over night and as soon as I unplug it the battery dies. The remote that comes with it doesn't work anymore, it would work for awhile then you had to be right next to the sensor for it to work, then it just quit working. Tried replacing batteries and even took the sensor module apart to try to fix it (I'm an electronics technician). The FM tuner/recorder/remote is supposed to have a 30 sec buffer so if you hear a song you like you can just press record and it will start recording 30 seconds previous to hitting the record button, then you edit it after recording. This worked well for awhile but the last time I tried to use it the buffer wasn't working anymore. I couldn't imagine how mad I'd be if I would have bought the camera attachment, because I'm sure that would of broke too. The unit has frozen up on me several times and now its newest issue is skipping on certain songs. I wouldn't recommend buying any product from Archos. Hate to admit it but should have bought an IPOD.
