Dig Into It with Archaeology

by   jo.com ,  Jun 3, 2001
Pros: Well written, well done publication with fascinating articles.
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend Archeology even if you don't think you are interested in the subject. The articles are fascinating and I think you'll enjoy the magazine.
Review: I am reviewing the May/June 2001 issue of Archaeology, which is a publication of the Archaeological Institute of America. It advertises itself as a magazine of “adventure, discovery, culture, history and travel.” The magazine caught my eye not...

"An abundance for everyone"

by   reviewer12 ,  May 12, 2002
Pros: Excellent quality, informative, interesting.
Cons: Only comes out twice a year, average 75 pages.
The Bottom Line: A quality magazine for people who like to learn when they read.
Review: Archaeology is a bountenous, indeed an inexhaustible, subject...there is an abundance for everyone -- providing it is attractively packaged, agreeable to peruse, and valid.

So said Sterling Dow (1948) founder of archaeology magazine,...

Age tells it all!

by   DebiJ ,  Jan 12, 2000
Pros: Has a website, beautiful pictures, good articles
Cons: bi-monthly - I'd prefer once a month
Review: Archaeology Magazine is the best of its genre. The articles are clear, concise, and entertaining. I have many back issues of the magazine which have come in very handy in the classroom - as manipulatives, and as incentives. I learned a lot myself...

Works for this armchair Indiana Jones

by   Liffey ,  Jan 3, 2000
Pros: good mix of light, short pieces and deeper, longer articles
Cons: only 6 issues per year!
Review: Is this a good magazine for the serious, scholarly archaeological professional? I have no idea. I'm just someone who is fascinated, sometimes obsessed, by sleuthing into the past, but who will probably never come closer to a dig than the pages of this...

A Magazine For Archaeology Aficionados

by   carolynuk ,  Jan 6, 2002
Pros: Creative layout, concise and easy-to-read articles, fascinating stories
Cons: needs more pages
The Bottom Line: Yes, definitely. It is as interesting as Discover and National Geographic.
Review: Archaeology has always caught my interest, given the amount of time I spent watching Discovery, History and National Geographic channels. This was the first time though that I subscribed to a magazine that catered to Archaeology readers like me.

Do you wonder about where you came from out of the past? By BCox26

by   BCox26 ,  Dec 21, 1999
Pros: Insightful perspectives on the past
Cons: There are no cons with this magazine!
Review: As I get older I ponder where all things come from and have started reading about our past. Archaeology is THE magazine for digging into the mysteries of human evolution. All the compelling contexts it has about fossils and how it makes sense of all the...

Who Are We?

by   jkerm ,  Dec 20, 1999
Pros: It is well researched and easy to understand.
Cons: Be sure your reading glasses are strong enough.
Review: Who are we? To know more about ourselves we have to look into the past. If you can't travel the globe to explore and see some of the most spectacular sights from the past for yourself, then travel in comfort with the latest copy of Archaeology....

A New Find: Archaeology

by   nathantyree ,  Jun 1, 2003
Pros: Intelligent, well researched, clearly written.
Cons: Some design and layout flaws.
The Bottom Line: A few design and layout flaws can't overwhelm this fine journal. Intelligent and well researched. A must for anyone interested in archaeology.
Review: Archaeology is a new find. I only recently stumbled across this magazine and added it to my reading list. I read a lot of magazines, and am always looking for new, high quality magazines to enjoy and share with others. This magazine certainly...

A Truly Interesting Collection of Our Ancestor's Leftovers

by   AmyM ,  Dec 10, 1999
Pros: Beautiful pictures, informative articles in the field
Cons: Might be difficult to comprehend for those that aren't educated in archaeology, but readable and enjoyable
Review: This magazine has beautiful pictures, and follows in the National Geographic tradition of covering all the details and providing the readers with glorious maps, drawings, photographs, and interesting little tidbits that make it wonderful.

Definately worth it.

by   sunnydlte ,  Dec 16, 1999
Pros: Diverse subjects, very well written, very interesting
Cons: articles sometimes very short
Review: If you like to learn or read about ship wrecks, icemen or buried cities I think you will enjoy Archeology. It is a good magazine. I really enjoyed the articles about Napoleon in Egypt, and the valley of the lost mummies. They talk about very...
