Why "NOT" Apple

by   avtpro ,   Jun 26, 2006

Pros:  You actually make stuff to share. Easy to use, No headaches, GET AppleCare.

Cons:  Waiting for them to kick the bucket so you can get a new one.

The Bottom Line:  You don't have to be a geek to have a computer that's cool. It's not an old car with a new paint job. It's power is under the hood.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

TECHIES
If you like building a computer piece by piece with a hodge-podge of parts from different vendors, ...this computer is not for you. It's all one piece, one manufacturer, one outstanding idea. It just works.

THE WHOLE ENCHILADA
See, look at the screen. That's the whole computer. Right, no big ugly box. Magic Presto, Disappearo! If you computer takes of more than a desktop, CHARGE RENT!They should be paying you for taking up that much space in your house. It's a desktop that is quite portable from room to room with one power plug to connect if you go with the wireless internet and printing, music, keyboard and mouse. Imagine one plug for the power, no clutter. Clean and sweet design.

You can even download movies trailers, watch DVDs and photos from the couch with a remote. All you have to do is add popcorn.

I can pick "Classical, Trance music, whatever from iTunes Radio send the music to anywhere I have my speakers connected to the little white inconspicuously hidden box Airport Express ($129). If I have more than one Airport I can send music to different rooms (one at a time). Unless you like wires, then the standard comes with it.

LET'S THINK

One question: What does fighting viruses have to do with what you want ? Can I answer that one? NOTHING! Did you buy a computer so you can fight viruses? (me..me! me!!) NO! Who's time are we talking about anyway? We are talking about your life and what you decide to do with it. Fighting virus is great if your a DOCTOR out to save mankind..but you just want to do your email, write a letter. See your relatives in across country with iChat video conference. Right?

If you like cringing every time you hear a virus scare announced on public television (no less)...This is not for you. If you like spending money, time and energy fighting off a myriad of viruses, you got the wrong machine.

Last I checked there were 60 known viruses on a Mac, and none of them actually worked. They are just squatters. They don't pay rent but they don't damage property. Last I heard, there were over 60,000 active viruses on other competitive systems. This kind of math is easy, just drop 3 zeroes. 60 compared to 60,000. Let that marinate. Vandals! destruction documents you built.

My current Mac I had for the last six years, I have I never bought virus protection software, yes, I use the internet freely. My monthly download limit is breached every month (cable). I'm on the internet all the time. Yes, I horde video and music. So what!! when I started computing it took an hour to download one megabyte (30 seconds of a song), With new cable, I'm a download over-doser!! I never worry about a viruses. (How long is never?)

EASY TO LEARN

If you want to go to school for Multimedia before you produce a professional quality DVD of your life's most memorable moments, family events (New Baby Burping or Great Grand Dad snoring)...this ain't it. You don't need a degree here. This is equivalent experience without the schooling. The proof is in the pudding. You can be a director, photojournalist, author...just pull out your beret, scarf, shades and go to work. Apple even offers quick start video so you can download anything you want to understand. It's like when Trinity in the Matrix needed to fly a helicopter. Just Download the video and "I know KUNG-FU". Ok. Not that fast, you get the point. Instead watching the depression news over coffee, watch a .Mac video and learn to PodCast. Call me a show-off, but I'm learning high end 3D graphics. I'm going to be a millionaire. I downloaded the "How-To" video :)

Right now, we are talking about your money, so let's get right to down to business.

I'm going to teach How to use a Mac...yes now! in ten seconds
How to: Open a file.
Hit the button with the Apple, it means command. Now tell it what to do. Hit the "O" for open. Apple button "O" or Command-O.
Make a new folder, Command (the one with the Apple) then press the "N" for new. Ok. Pop Quiz. How do you "find" your file? Correct. Answer: Command "F". How to "Save" a file. How to Copy? yeppers!! (command-S and Command C). Youre a Mac User. Go to the Apple store and try it.

EASY TO USE

If you think it's impossible to be at a party, have your kids, folks and friends stand in front of your iMac with built-in iSight camera, take snapshots, edit them into funny faces with PhotoBooth, drop them into an iPhoto slideshow with cool transitions and effects that plays along with your favor iTunes Music into a Music Video in less time than it took me to write this run-on sentence, then...this computer is definitely for someone who believes in DisneyLand, and Apple Magic....and It's not you.

If you can't believe that the phrase "most advance operating system in the world" actually translate to the word "Easy" then stop for a second because... Well, it does. Think in terms of Cars. It's like "Power Steering". It's advanced but it makes driving a breeze. Manual computing is is writing ten things to get one thing done.
Advanced computing is tell it one thing and it does ten for you.

Automatic computing as oppose to manually steering through your images, songs, movies and documents. Finding all your stuff on your computer instantly by typing a word or phrase in "Spotlight" search engine. Not losing your files. ...but if you like trying to memorize where you put a song out of volumes and gigs of files...then...keep looking. This ain't it baby!

Here's what you can believe...the next time an Apple user says their computer never crashes or maybe it hasn't crashed in 5 years. (about the same time OSX has came out).

Next time you see and Apple user, them to stop being so easy going, tell them to wipe that easy smile off their face, and ask them "What virus software do they use?" and they say. "huh? what viruses?"

When they tell you they made a professional, looking charismatic DVD, a website (.Mac), burned music CDs, printed documents and photos, copied files, and downloaded movie trailers...all at the same time without a hiccup. That they open over ten programs at one time and the computer never choked. All their software will run at the same time and play nice-nice with each other because of protective memory. Ask them to show you how they can have ten programs open, and restart operating system without it flinching or missing a beat.

(somebody stop me!) and worked in their same PC programs at the same time, on the same machine. If they actually volunteer to show you, tell them to stop being so friendship, then just sneak and do it yourself. Just click on ever single icon in the cool dock and watch them all open and without a mad dash to some tech shop for more memory upgrades.

Ask them if they bought any extra program to do it? and they say "No, all the programs to do it all comes on the Mac."...believe them.

It's not Magic, it's a Mac.

OK. Lay on the couch for a minute. I sit in a chair next to you scratching on a note and I say, "The world is changing ever day and you want to stay the same". You say "yes, Doctor". I scratch a big X finishing my Tic-Tac-Toe game and I say " This computer is not for you...It's too new, You need time to get use to new things". So get it for the newbies in your family. Test it out on them and just when they are haveing the maximum limit of fun allowed in life...YOU JUMP IN!. (LOL)

Opps...Session over, You time is up. I must conclude. What do I hate about Mac? That my last Mac I bought 6 years ago, runs all the current software and new Operation system and I have no justifiable reason to by a new one. :(

You don't trash Mac when they get old, you they are like family members, you just pass them to the next of kin to take care of them. (just joking).

Yes, the downside, a computer that you don't have to upgrade every 6 months...or every six years.

Believe it.
