I love my Apple iPod Nano 1 gig! It's streamlined design makes it easy to carry anywhere. It holds hours of music. The sound quality is better than I expected. It's very easy to use, even for the technologically impaired such as myself.
The Apple website claims that the iPod Nano is as thin as pencil... I agree, if we are talking about a really skinny pencil! It's tiny enough that it can be put into a pocket, along with other things, and carried with you anywhere. I take mine to the gym, on walks, I even listen to it when I'm shopping sometimes! Like other iPods, this one can be plugged into a car stereo's auxiliary port and heard through the speakers. If there is no auxiliary port, an FM transmitter can be purchased for around $60.00.
Although the 1 gig is the smallest iPod Apple makes, for me, 1 gig is plenty. It holds about 240 songs - (that's a lot of music!) Which are easy to change should the owner tire of current play lists.
The sound quality is great! I honestly didn't expect such a small device to produce sound quality that's just as good, if not better than CDs. As with all MP3 Players the quality of the MP3 is a major factor in determining how good the song will ulimately sound. I find that using free services like Limewire does not always produce very good results. iPod owners would be better off paying for legal MP3s which Apple makes easy with the iTunes music store.
Using the iPod Nano is the same routine as using it's larger predecessors. Apple includes the iTunes software which is easy to install onto your computer, and pretty user friendly. One is able to download music from the iTunes store, arrange MP3s into playlists and assign personal ratings to songs all with the simple drag and drop feature. Updating the iPod is also ultra-easy! A USB cord (included with the purchase) is simply attached to the iPod and to the computer and iTunes does all the work. There's nothing more for the user to do, but wait until the iPod says it's updated!
To charge the iPod's battery it is simply plugged in to the computer using the USB cord (just like with updating.) The device will fully charge in under an hour, and holds it's charge for about 14 hours. There is a battery life monitor displayed on the upper right of the screen to let users know when the battery is running low. It's been my experience that when it says it's getting low there is still an hour - 90 min left.
Operating the iPod is also very easy just use the Apple clickwheel like on the older incarnations of the iPod.
In addition to holding music, the iPod Nano can hold upto 25,000 color photos, it has a calendar function, a contacts list, and to-do lists! The iPod Nano is also compatible with audiobooks and podcasts.
I have heard that the iPod Nano screen is easily damaged, however mine is still intact (not even a scratch on it,) and I have dropped it several times... So I'm not sure if there is much truth to that.
Overall I think this featherweight MP3 player is definetly one of the best ones on the market. It's compact, vesratile, easy to use, and holds hours of music!
