When I went into the store to buy my nano, I saw the package for it, and was astonished that everything fit into such a small box. It comes with a usb charging cord, earbuds, and manual. Unless you are completely computer illiterate, you don't really need the manual, as the ipod is very user friendly.
The interface is great on the nano. very easy to navigate using the scroll wheel. All options you could ask for are included in the menus, including games, contacts, calendar, stopwatch, and podcasts. The only thing I found was that there is no option to sync the calendar from your ical formatted program, like sunbird or ical.
The battery life in the nano 2nd generation is great. I can usually go at least 1 week before having to plug the nano back into the computer to charge it again, which is awesome.
The only problem I can see with the battery is that it is not replaceable, so once it dies, the nano becomes a doorstop.
The other nice feature about the nano's is that they are flash based players, which means no skipping of songs because there are no moving parts. Now for some reason I have been having some intermittant skipping of some songs depending on the day. very strange, but it does happen every once in a while.
The earbuds that come with the nano are nothing spectacular, but for $179, I wasn't expecting anything really good. They have decent bass response, and they don't seem to sound too tinny.
Syncing the nano is very easy when you use itunes to sync it. You just go into the menu in itunes and tell it what you want to keep the nano updated with. After that, everytime you plug it in, it updates the nano with any new content.
In general I would highly recommend the Ipod Nano to anyone with an active lifestyle, because of its small footprint, and because it is flash based, you dont need to worry about skipping.
