Author's Review
I got this iPod for my birthday last year. I wasn't really looking to get an iPod and really didn't think I'd care much about it. I have to say, my opinion has soooo changed. I love this thing.
The hard drive size is fantastic. I have transferred all of my music, audiobooks, tons of pictures, purchased games from the Apple store, have 3 full length movies on it and I still haven't used up HALF the capacity on this thing!
I use this mostly to listen to my audiobooks while driving. My car doesn't have a build in hook up for the iPod so I bought one of those FM receivers. The receiver quality isn't great, but I love the ability to listen to my "books" without having to switch CDs. If I have to go to a Dr. appt or somewhere where I have to wait, I simply take the iPod with me and can listen where I left off from the car.
The iPod remembers where I left off with either a song or one of the audiobooks so I never have to worry about finding what I was listening too. I can also play games and listen to music or an audiobook at the same time.
We even have an older receiver at home that doesn't have a USB hookup or iPod doc. I simply hook an inexpensive audio cable from the iPod earphone jack to the audio in/out on the receiver and I can play music right through my home stereo.
Apple also has tons of tv and movies you can purchase and download. Keep checking back on their site as often something even pops up "free" for a limited time where you can grab say pilot episodes of your favorite tv show. Movie viewins isn't the best, and mostly a gimic though. The screen is too small to really make this a completely usable feature, but it's fun sometimes, although really not practical and I don't use this much at all.
Finally, I can carry literally hundreds of photos on this thing and the color and clarity is top notch. It's like carrying a huge photo album around in a compact case. Has come in handy when visiting relatives we haven't seen in a long time and catching them up on how the kids have grown.
I do wish it came with a charger. You can charge this by hooking it to the USB on your computer, but that requires the computer to be on when charging and obviously not practical when traveling. You can by a separate charger though, but of course that's an extra expense.
