I like the creativity of Apple but thats it.

The Bottom Line: There are a lot of really good players on the market for a better price with the same features and a lot easier to use.
I have the nano 1st gen and love it. It's great for downhill skiing. Was able to find a remote control that goes in my mit. Keeps me in tunes for a full day of skiing. Awesome!!
Thought I would up to the 3rd gen...ooo big mistake. Looks good and that is about it.
If you like to spend a lot of time on your computer tweeking things then this might be for you. I however hate wasting my time on computers.
The Nano
I have never had a problem downloading from Apple iTunes and then transfering to the nano, not bad, the artwork comes in and the song plays. If you decide to use a different web site for your song selections..oh boy. The fun begins.
In a lot of cases iTunes can't find the art work so you go out and find the art work yourself and bring it in. So far so good, a little inconvenience that tolerable. Now you listen to your song with iTunes as you transfer to the nano, eject the nano, put your earbuds on and no noise.
Now that you know it doesn't play your song you plug the nano back into itunes, delete the song from the nano, redownload the song, transfer over to the nano, eject and listen. Chances are real good it will work now.
This is just one of many nuances of the device that I don't like. Other things like not being able to get your song off the nano other than deleting; you have to use iTunes for your connection; you have to tell iTunes you have new music..blah, blah.
Personally I don't get any sense of accomplishment from playing with things that should work.
I like what Apple is doing, I just don't like what Apple has done.
I am currently using Vista as an OS and have found that every time I down load new music, Vista media player puts it in the play list automatically (no fuss, it's just there) and always finds the art work. If for some unkown reason it can't find the art work the media player is extremely helpful in finding it with you. You can then drag and drop onto 3rd part mp3 player (or drag off) and be on the road within minutes. A far cry from the hours you will spend with iTunes and your nano and I mean hours.
I think my next mp3 player will be from Microsoft. It has the same features plus some and you don't always have to lock your controls when you are active.
Hope this helps. I know this isn't very well written but I just had to say something.
