I've owned the 24" Imac for one year now and enjoy it everyday. Mine is configured with 2.8 Ghz Dual Core processeor, 4 gigs of RAM, Nvidia card and 500 Gb hard drive. I highly recommend the BTO Nvidia 8800 GS option for gaming and working with Imovies. That upgrade is $150.00 and is worth every penny. You can upgrade the ram later for less with http://www.crucial.com. Make sure you pick a sizable hard drive because it can not be upgraded without some hassle and you'll void your warrantly.
Speaking about hard drives make sure you get the apple care protection plan from amazon.com ($149.99) because exactly one week after the standard warranty expired my hard drive began reporting drive failures. I will have to take it in for repairs. It still works but I can not scan the drive with disk utility and I am experiencing performance issues because of it. Thank goodness for time machine. It is a wonderful feature that backs up your hard drive on the hour to an external usb or firewire drive. Firewire 800 is wicked fast on this. Will back up a gig within seconds. It has already saved me once when the drive was on the fritz and would not load.
Other than that. Screen is beautiful. Has some backlight bleedthrough in the corners but overall it impresses everyone who sees it. The processor is amazingly fast. WiFi performance is better than any machine i've had. I love Safari and Apple mail. Spaces will make your life easier because it allows you to setup separate workspaces preventing a clutter of windows. Something Windows needs to implement.
I use Windows Vista on bootcamp and virtualized through Parallels. You will need 4 gigs of ram if you want to run both OSes at the same time.
Integrated speakers are loud and clear. Steer clear from the wireless mouse and keyboard. They lose connectivity too often and eat up batteries.
The fit and finish of the aliuminum case is second to none. I have cats with claws and they climb all over everthing. Not a single scratch on the case. (my cats like to lie in the space between the pedestal and the monitor) Extremely durable and thin. Everyone thinks it is just a monitor till they walk up and see no tower.
Overall a fantastic computer. Will set you back around 300.00 more than a comparable personal computer from Dell or HP. But with $300.00 you get the fantastic iLife suite of tools, No Vista or Xp, No viruses, no annoying nagging messages and pop-ups, and a swank all in one design that everyone will want to touch.
