We all face the dilemma in todays day in age of getting a computer. Maybe you already have a desk top and need something portable, in my case I am off to college and need a laptop that will last. In the last 4 years personally I have been through three computers; 2 laptops both dell and one desktop being a gateway. All of them work to this day, but lets say they have lost their edge, they all have grueling slow processor speed, the laptops have been dropped at-least once and have battle scars for this, i.e lines in the display and cracks on laptop shell. They are all windows, and all of them were used well. I would like to say that I am no computer geek but I have goofed around with enough computers to at-least know what works. Going the cheap route didn't work this first 3 times so I knew I needed to shell out some cash to get a decent computer. So I decided to buy a MacBook Pro, and so far things have been fine.
At home I had used and got familiar with the Windows system as well as a few computer that were windows at the school. However in the Middle school and High school I attended there were apple labs laptops and pretty much everything Macintosh oriented in most of the class rooms. My experience with the computers was very good, I liked the way this system operated over the windows platform. However windows does have its key points over mac, When I got to high school I started taking graphic design, this involved photoshop on Mac computers and I loved it. I had a trial of photoshop on my desktop at home and it was extremely slow, granted my computer was full of junk. The Macs at the school worked very well with this memory eating program. All it took was a friend of mine getting the new MacBook when I started goofing with it I loved it. The way it looked and the way it performed, all the cool features like the built in camera and the remote, I loved it. So when I finally had enough money I got on the internet and bought the MacBook pro.
I wanted the biggest screen since I would be watching movies in my dorm, so I got the 17 screen. Some of the options I purchased were the backlit keyboard and the high definition display, and as any smart electronics buyer would I bought the extended warranty. Almost everyone over looks this but on a 3,000 dollar computer, a warranty is a necessity. So after emptying my bank account, and selling a car the laptop of my dreams is on the way. After three weeks of anticipation it arrived. It was an early Christmas I ripped open the box (carefully) and took out the laptop. Pretty cool stuff, compared to the dell inspiron I purchased two to three years back, it was less than half as thick and the display on the Mac was almost two inches bigger. That was the most attractive to me and also the great looking aluminum that encases the computer. As for performance it is flawless other than when I start typing sometimes it doesn't type the key I push, and the aluminum case tends to heat up and actually get kind-of hot. But I have not noticed a difference in performance when it is running warm. I love loud music always have out of all the laptops I have played with my MacBook has the best speakers. This thing really bumps, no distortion and sounds great! Also with the bluetooth connection I can connect to my phone and download music or if I am on the road or area without Wi-Fi I can get on the internet.
For the money I maybe would have expected more programs already included like maybe a knock off of photoshop, or maybe a decent word processor. I guess I paid for an awesome computer not the software. The hardware features in this laptop surpass everything that I have ever owned and supposed to be top of the line components. Their are a few drawbacks to this hi performance, at my campus almost everything is windows based, a lot of the programs that I use in class on operate on windows systems and only windows. So this means I have to go to the lab and do the homework, which defies the point of having a computer. I would have to agree windows is definitely more popular, their are more than a handful of companies that use it as their standard operating system in their computers. Apple is the one of the few companies who until just recently incorporated a windows operating system. However of course you must pay extra to get the windows operating system on your Mac.
All around I am impressed with this computer Its everything I need and then some. It is definitely the best computer and the last computer I will be needing for hopefully sometime. This computer has features I don't even know how to use or have much obligation to use. Which leads to my next point dont buy a super computer if you dont plan using it to its full potential. If all you are going to buy doing is writing papers and accessing the internet, a $600-$700 dell or Toshiba is a much better choice. But if you like to photoshop and create music, edit video or design in auto-cad, the Mack pro is for you. So far I have had my MacBook for 4 months and it has gave no problems so far it has been a great machine
