The Bottom Line: It's a great little machine that has a lot of uses.
**~**~**~** Apple Ipod Nano 8GB The Green One **~**~**~**
This Christmas, I gave you my heart...sorry.
This Christmas, I got possibly the best present ever.
That's right, Father Wishwish got me an ipod nano video 3rd generation green creation.
It's quite simply genius.
**~**~** The Product **~**~**
Ooo it's beautiful, as beautiful as an anodized aluminium front with stainless steel back containing electronicness can be. It's small enough to fit in my pocket and for me to forget it's there (5 x 7cm) and it's freakishly thin too.
Its Big screen of 2" is situated above the classic ipod wheel that's so easy to use that mother managed to figure it out - she's the woman that argues with Tom Tom thinking that he can hear her and so directs her another way! Bless old people.
Its not a manky pea soup green but a classy light jade type colour - I dunno, it's a nice green. Good choice by him indoors who incidentally, like mine so much that he went and fetched his own blue version. Mine wins though.
**~**~** What it does **~**~**
I'll tell you what it does in layman's terms, if you want to know exact product specifications check out the product info which means zip to me.
Music: Its memory is so large you could get 2000 songs on it apparently - I've got all my CDs on it and it's used under 2GB, the clever little thing. The quality is superb using the headphones supplied with it, but also, it plays beautifully through my car stereo too.
Video: I never thought I'd use this but recently I've been downloading more and more films to watch on it and merely transfering them onto the ipod a few at a time. At the mo, I've got Evan Almighty and Blue Harvest (Family Guy) and it's not even taken up 1GB. Bargain. The quality of these depends where you get them and of course it's a tiny screen so nowt like the good ol cinema itself but I seriously got lost in Blue Harvest and was chuckling away like a demented freak much to the amusement of various onlookers.
Photo: I've put a few piccies on but it's fairly pointless unless you're really bored and want to flick through the holiday snaps.
Games: These pass the time but they're nowt to write home about so I won't.
Other: There's a calendar, stopwatch, alarm and other stuff that I never bother to use.
**~**~** How the hell does it work? **~**~**
I don't know - it's a magic box with tiny little imps inside that mimic your favourite musical pieces fooling you into thinking that you're actually with the musicmen of your choice.
Alternatively, I could tell you how to use it: Using i-tunes - bit like windows but more confusing until you get the hang of it - you transfer your downloads or CDs or whatever into this free program which stores them all for you. You then chose which songs/photos/videos to put onto your ipod, thus, you can transfer just the tracks you'd want to listen to, or just the video's you've not seen recently. Musically, you can put your favourites into playlists so that for different moods you have different tunes all ready for your delicate ears - dance tunes for when you're going out with your mates, love songs for the affair you may be having and S-Club-Seven for your worryingly effeminate brother.
It's so easy that I can do it. Initially, when you plug your ipod in via the USB port on your computer (don't panic, the cable comes with it in a handy box that I keep mine stored in) there seems to be a lot of sorting out to do like downloading a new version of i-tunes (annoying if you're not on-line) and how to work the bloody thing as it comes with no instructions per se. After a fair amount of fannying around, it all seems to magically fall into place and hey presto you're a genius - that's what I exclaimed anyway. Annoyingly you can't see what's actually physically on your ipod until you've unplugged it from the laptop but that's a minor point. Whilst it's attached to the mothership, it also charges it - brilliant - no batteries to forget to buy and no additional plug wires to fall over. Although I have got a mains charger for when I go away on hols which cost a fiver off ebay.
**~**~** Day to day use **~**~**
The screen is very very clear. Album artwork is dead easy to add - you just find the picture somewhere like Amazon and copy the picture (don't know if it's illegal or not but the police haven't turned up at the door yet). There are many ways to see your songs - you can view artists/songs/albums and the cleverest bit is that you can view them by 'coverflow' - all the albums are listed using the album artworks you've put in. Its colours are brilliant - the films have been consistently clear. You can change the brightness of the display so that it doesn't burn your retina should you be using it late at night, in bed, for some unknown reason.
The battery has a 24 hour audio/ 5 hour video length which is surprisingly long.
The wheel thing is very easy to use - go round it clockwise and it moves down the display list and vice versa. There's back, forward, play and pause on it which is self-explanatory. The thing I like is that you can see right down the list of tunes and mess about with them there and then unlike other MP3 players where you have to organise it all on the computer prior to use.

These are coming down in price all the time - they're about #120 at the mo but obviously there's bargains to be had everywhere - it's money well spent in my opinion.
**~**~** Other stuff that I've not got a heading for **~**~**
Films for the ipod are pricey when bought from Apple - there are other ways to get them including programs that convert your own films into the right format.
Buy it a case - my ipod would almost certainly be in a very small, shallow grave if it were not for the thoughtful case that I got with it - a Griffin one that covers the display too ensuring that my carelessness does not ruin my little friend.
I also use mine in my stereo - it slots straight onto the device and magically plays out of it - dunno how it works really but it's very clever - all my music is now stored on laptop, but my ipod plays music everywhere through different mediums - how ingenious is that?!
I use it a lot more than the old long ipod nano cos I've always got it on me.
You can also download podcasts but I've never done it.
Apparently it can hold 7000 photos - why??

It's the cleverest little device I currently own. It's simple, efficient, durable (in a case!), green, tiny, beautiful, wonderful and any other words that are nice.
