IPOD Revolution
Date of Review: Jan 5, 2007
The Bottom Line: Apple has the market pretty much cornered on this product. It has great looks and a huge storage capacity. Buy this one for your entire music collection.
So now I have joined the Ipod Revolution with the other millions of people in the world. I used to ask myself why does everyone have one whether I am at work, school, or the airport. I didn't really even think of buying one until we bought one for my niece for Christmas. It was the 30g black version and when I actually looked at it I thought this was pretty cool for music storage. After careful research I have decided to get one as well. I bought the 80G white version for myself.
For now there isnt that much to tell because I have only had it a week but it has a huge amount of storage for such a small device. The screen is large and bright and decent quality for how small it is. The dial for the controls are pretty much standard but the volume control is cool because it will go up at the touch of your finger. If an average cd holds 15 songs it would take about 1300 of these to fill the hard drive. Its kind of overkill for the average user but if your a DJ it would be great. The only reason why I bought this is because Ultimate Electronics had a deal if you spent 399 or more it was 12 months same as cash. I spent 350 for the Ipod and with tax and the extended warranty it came to 440 dollars.
I have read and talked to many people that own these and they say they do scratch easy so with that in mind I went and bought a nice iskin cover for it. It is soft rubber on the inside and a hard plastic shell on the outside.
The only thing I didnt like about it was there are hardly any instructions on how to work the controls and what functions are within the different menus. Its all trial and error but I think that is the point of it all which is to play around with the device and ask other people about it. It also uses mp4 formats for music and I am not sure if there is software to convert other formats to this, but I that is another gimmic for apple to keep people in their clutches.
One word of advice I can give to new people downloading the new version of itunes is make a separate folder for it. At the website when getting ready to download, it will prompt you with a runsetup.exe and ask you where you would like to save it to. Put this in its own file folder. If you dont put it in a folder it will try to download the files to your windows media which is not compatable. It took a lot of asking around to get it all straightened out but after that it worked great.
I will update this in about 6 months to see if it was worth the money. For now it is a pretty cool and fun piece of technology. Most people only need the 30g Ipod and that is the one that I also would have bought if things worked out better for me.
