Author's Review
I have finally rid myself of my last PC laptop. It never mattered how god they were, or how expensive, they eventually would run like a piece of crap after a couple years of regular use. After experiencing wonderful ease of use and zero problems at work with our iMac desktops, I had the opportunity to order the best of the best, with cost as no option.
This is that laptop. 4gb of RAM, 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo processor, and a 15 inch LED backlit screen.
The cases are easy to scratch, so I strongly recommend you order a hard case/cover before buying a macbook. I would get a keyboard skin also, keeping the coffee and crumbs out of such an expensive laptop.
I have been running Parallels for mac so I can run Windows XP. I wish I didn't have to, but there are a few work related programs I can't run any other way (yet). Great addition to any mac in a business environment. I found my laptop bag is now too large, due to my old PC laptop being a 17 inch screen model. More room for cables and adapters I guess. I really like the power block, with the swappable long cord for reaching behind a hotel TV stand, and the flip out prongs for when the plug is right close.
I have tested this unit with Sierra Wireless' USB cellular data modem and it works perfectly. The Telus dealer couldn't tell me if it would work or not.
Battery life is quite good, and can be better if you turn off the keyboard lighting, and turn down the brightness.
The speakers work well, but are not quite loud enough to listen to a podcast if the room is not very quiet. Yes, use headphones, I know, but I play the podcasts while I do other work.
Glide pad takes some getting used to, and is very sensitive.
I found I had to remember to not let another finger touch the screen. This is just a function of the glide pad being so big! Adding a bluetooth mighty mouse fixes this.
