Author's Review
After working with a PC computer for 7 years, I finally decided to switch back to Mac, and it was one of the best decisions I've made in a long time.
First of all, the design is a dream. With my old PC, half of my desk was cluttered with cables, and the tower took up half of the space below the desk. With this new Mac, there are virtually no cables. The set up was a breeze: plug the mouse into the keyboard (which has a great, sleek design with keys that are barely 1/8 inch high), the keyboard into the monitor/computer, and the monitor/computer into the wall. Turn it on, and within less than 5 minutes, everything was fully set up, including my internet connection.
Unlike with PCs, where viruses are a constant thread and regularly updated anti-virus software is necessary, the Mac comes with a built-in firewall, and I can now make my online transactions without much worry about virus infections. Also, for someone like me who is "technologically challenged" and doesn't understand much about computers, the Mac is much, MUCH easier to use. When installing new programs or copying data, my PC always asked me several questions about directories and where to put things...my Mac is smart enough to figure it out by itself. With the Mac, I can name my files any way I want, I simply drag and drop, and the rest happens magically behind the scenes. I have had my new Mac for 4 months now, and have not had one problem with it...I couldn't say the same thing about my old PC.
Also, the simple fact that I would be able to load Windows onto the Mac if I needed to makes this machine incredibly versatile. The programs installed with it are easy-to-use, the only draw-back is that the word processing programs (Word and IWorks) are only trial versions, so you have to purchase it down the line. I personally decided to go with IWorks, since I'm not a big friend of Microsoft, and so far, I'm very pleased not only with the low price, but also with the performance. Pages is very easy to use and intuitive, and it didn't take long to adjust from being used to working with Word.
This Mac is a bit more pricey than some of the comparable PC models on the market today, but the ease of use, the reliability and the space-saving design are well worth the extra cost.
