Product Review

Still Amazes me

by   linuxos77 ,   Dec 3, 2007

Pros:  Hardware is rock solid as well as the OS

Cons:  Windows PC's can be bought cheaper

The Bottom Line:  For what you get the slightly higher cost is well worth it. It really is the perfect home machine.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I bought this computer about a year ago almost to the day. The only thing I've added was memory to bring the RAM up to 1GB from the stock 512 MB. In it's year of use it has had ZERO problems (both hardware and software). During the year of it's use I've seen three or four of my friends "upgrade" to Vista then go back to XP, saying they're switching to Mac the next time they buy a computer. I've always looked at Mac users as VERY vocal about their platform choice and this year has honestly showed me why... After a month or two I was wondering why anyone would continue to run PC's and Windows.

My IMac still looks new, although the keyboard could use a bit of a cleaning (keys starting to show some dirt). The screen has a great picture and I have not noticed any change or degradation yet. The internal speakers are decent enough for desktop use (system sounds and playing background music), but I won't be DJ'ing any parties on this machine .

This machine handled Leopard perfectly, in fact I would say it actually feels faster. I did however upgrade the RAM to 1GB, the original 512 while fine for desktop use, would bog down slightly under a large iPhoto library or editing video. Also, don't use this machine for 3D games, the Intel video card simply won't handle them, though it does handle desktop effects and anything in iLife 08 with ease.
