Decent for the bedroom DJ
Date of Review: Jun 12, 2003
The Bottom Line: Bedroom jocks if you can get these for less then $65 they're good until it's time to play out. If you're a professional DJ buy Pioneers, Sonys, Technics, etc.
I purchased these cans being an avid fan of Stanton needles. I was impressed with the sound quality and the comfort (comfort for side monitoring) of these phones for the price but I was very disappointed in the over all durability of them. As for the sound quality the sound is crisp and clear and the frequency response was close to flat across the whole range. As a set of phones for the DJ they were a bit lacking in the bottom end. AS for build quality my first pair of these phones quit working a few months over a year and I was told by Stanton that they were no longer covered under the warranty. After sending a rather unpleasant email Stanton, to their credit, did replace them at no cost to me. I haven't had any problems with the new pair. Another problem I had with these phones was the lack of volume. On more then one occasion playing out I simply did not have enough volume and sound isolation. I had to switch headphones after mixing only a couple of tracks. I would not recommend using these in a live professional environment, however, I would recommend them to any bedroom DJ as long as you can get them for under $65.00. Once you begin playing out though you'll want to upgrade to a better pair. Personally I use the Pioneer HDJ-1000 which is just about as close to the perfect pair of DJ headphones in existence.
