I want to take Annie home! I have!

I have just bought (first I rented) the original Annie. It was great! If Lucille Ball was the queen of comedy, the Carol Burnette is the Princess. She was hilarious as the drunken owner of the orphanage that Annie got stuck in.

Albert Finney as the gruff Oliver Warbucks was just as great. To see him change from a brusque, rough businessman to an endearing father was a sight to behold - and you must keep your eyes on him because he does it so subtly.

Aileen Quinn is the perfect orphan. Rough exterior because she has to be in the situation that she is, but tender and loving and she shows it when she holds one of the other younger girls after a bad dream.

Of course there is some action and greed and suspense, but the overall effects are larger than life and the songs and dances are done extremely well - especially by the children.

I have seen the updated version but I would not buy it. Cathy Bates was the only good thing about that version.
