Author's Review
My husband and I were looking for a game to pass the time. We did some research on the internet and found an entire "underground network" of people completely infatuated with this game. There were all sorts of hints, codes, and feng shui advice. It looked like it was my kind of game! We purchased it immediately.
After you go through the motions of working for Tom Nook, you will be released and able to do things on your own.
It's really a basic game. There's no fighting or any puzzles to solve. Mostly, you are doing favors for the other town's people and receiving rewards for these completed tasks. It may sound boring but it's much more than that.
Like I said earlier there is the art of Feng Shui that you must learn so that you can effectively place your furniture in areas of your home to maximize your luck finding objects and money.
At various times of the year, there are contests like the Fishing Tourney, where you compete against the other townspeople for who can catch the biggest bass. My husband beat me every time.
We were also quite competitive at who's collection of insects, fish, and fossils were the largest.
In the beginning, we would play several times a day. He'd sneak in a game play before and after work and I would catch up during the day. Unfortunately, only one player at a time can play. However, it still seems like you are playing with other people because the characters all live in the same town. You are able to send letters to them and compete against them during the contests.
This game is surprisingly addictive. It also plays in real time and corresponds to the same season you are in real life.
Unfortunately, we never got to see the all the seasons. After about 5 months of solid play, we stopped playing altogether because it took up so much of our time. Not only was it very time-consuming but the game was not stimulating anymore. The favors tend to get old and fishing to make money was not fun anymore.
In my opinion, Animal Crossing ranks among the top 5 games for the Nintendo Gamecube. We had great fun while it lasted.
