How American Pie Became a Nightmare Movie For Me and My Parents

Ok, so you are on a first date and a little nervous, or perhaps,not big much of a conversationalist. Or you are bored and looking for something to do on a night out with the boys/girls that does not involve drugs, sex, and alcohol. Or maybe, just maybe, you are looking for a movie to check out with your parents.

I would suggest that American Pie II would be a great movie to check out with the friends. It would be a great movie to check out with a girlfriend- what the heck, it will give you something to talk about and might even give you some fun ideas. However, seeing American Pie II with the parents is not a good idea.

I made the mistake of seeing the movie with my parents. Yep, I know what you are thinking; what kind of idiot would consider going to see THIS movie with his parents? Well, I was in town and wanted to spend some quality time with them and the other option was checking out Crouching Tiger. I sort of figured that I would rather spend a week with a proctologist than see Crouching Tiger, so I suggested American Pie II. MISTAKE!

How big of a mistake? Well, lets just say that I have never been asked so many questions of a sexual nature in my entire life! For starters, Jason Biggs gets caught in an embarrassing sexual act (I will not disclose as you need to see it) and my parents reminded me when they walked in on me and, well, me. No just kidding, they walked in on me and an old girlfriend. Quite embarrassing! Then my parents rehashed an embarrassing moment at a party that I decided to throw while in high school (much like in the movie where there is a scene in which the party- goers are able to see more than they rightfully should). Yes, they come home and found people on a ladder which was looking into my bedroom. Yes, I was having a lot of fun. Finally, yes I was asked if I have ever had phone sex and at this point I almost died. Imagine your parents asking you if you have had phone sex!

I will not even bring up all of the questions I was asked as we made our way to and then through dinner after dinner. Suffice it to say, anything you could possibly have done in high school and/or college will be asked by your parents- if you are dumb enough to go to American Pie II with your parents.

So, about the movie. I liked it and found it to be just about as good as the original. Although the movie was essentially the same plot and characters, I still found it to be entertaining- think Police Academy and you will see how the same plot and characters can actually work. Ok, bad example. Think of the Vacation movies. The characters seem to have matured a little bit, but they are still sex crazed. The difference is that this time they actually "get some" with a little bit of frequency (no mom, not the same frequency as I did in school). All in all, the movie is the same plot as the original, but with slight twists on the stupidity. In other words, if you enjoyed the first one, you will enjoy the second.

As for the characters, I must say that Stifler is still a raving lunatic. He maintains his huge ego, scary looks, and profane bluntness. The poor dork who has the bathroom problems is still struggling with his bowel problems and his love for women old enough to have been his grandmother. The band camp babe is still a band geek (sorry, all of you band geeks, but if the shoe fits), only now she teaches other band geeks. Finally, my favorite character (yes mom, I have had many a wet dream about her) Mena Suvari is still gorgeous and playful when it comes to her sexuality.

I would strongly suggest American Pie II if you are looking for a good laugh. The key is seeing it with the right people. A new date, for instance, would work. Hey, where else can you go to get wonderful sex ideas and get each other charged up sexually? A group of friends will always work. The parents? Never again will I see anything with them that is not rated PG or less.
