Author's Review
American Girl Magazine offers so much for young girls ages 10 and up.
I 've never seen a magazine that promotes self esteem, self confidence and a desire to be creative like American Girl.
It's a magazine that does all this without the use of advertisements. That means more pages of interest and fun for our daughters. This also prevents the girls from getting distracted from the great contents.
This magazine offers sections on material such as :
Letters from You, that has letters from the readers.
Girls Express, Here are all different things like, contests, games, How to decorate your bedroom and small articles about things the girls have done.
There is an article in the May/June issue asking "How Do You Control Your Anger ?
There is also an 8 page article on "Ameli's Notebook, This issue deals with Amelia going to visit her Dad who she hasn't seen in 10 years.
Special Effects--- Girls learn how to make a canopy for their bed,
decorate a light switch cover and frame a mirror.
A really great feature is, girls will interview their Mom's, grandmother's, great grandmother's and find out about their youth, what they wore and get pictures. They then submit this info and the pictures to American Girl and every year they pick only a few girls to make a paper doll of and outfits that they wear now , along with outfits their ancestors wore. This is a great feature because it teaches the girls about their family tree. Imagine your child seeing themselves as a paperdoll and pictures of their ancestors ?
American Girl Air Mail features letters from girls all over the world and true stories of their lives. It teachers the girls about different customs in different countries.
An American Girl from Yesterday shows you a picture of a young girl and they give you clues to see if you know who it is. This issue it was Rosie O'Donnell. They give you the answer on the next page along with their picture.
This whole magazine is so great in that it is so informative for young girls, it shows they aren't alone with their problems. It also promotes Self Esteem, Self Confidence and Creativity.
My daughter loves this magazine. She reads the whole thing as soon as it comes. It's a great feeling knowing that your daughter is reading about wholesome values, history and ways to help themselves.
It comes every other month. A subscription costs $19.95 for one year (6 issues) Or you can get a 2 year subscription for $36.00 . Visit their website and there are more interesting stories for the girls. It's just an all around great magazine for young girls.
Enjoy !
