Something special

by   sylphstarwind ,  Apr 5, 2007
Pros: Neat story; cool weapons; fascinating characters; nice graphics; fantastic sound
Cons: Simple controls that are sometimes twitchy; might not work on your computer
The Bottom Line: This is a game that stands out, one that you should try if you're into something dark and different
Review: Not very many games try to be scary or freaky, and succeed. Fewer still do it without a lot of gore and 'boo' tactics. This one does all that and more. There's so much in American McGee's Alice that is creepy, demented, or just plain out there. That ...

Go ask Alice...I think she'll know

by   kurt_g ,  Dec 27, 2001
Pros: amazing gameworld, good voice acting
Cons: Resource hog
The Bottom Line: Alice is a standard FPS game wrapped in an amazing gameworld. If you like FPS games and have a pretty heavy-duty system to run it on, you'll probably like it.
Review:
American McGee's Alice is a pretty good first-person shooter game wrapped in a demented, lovingly detailed gameworld.

The background:

Since Alice's last trip behind the looking-glass, things have taken...

Follow the Starving, Grotesque White Rabbit...

by   dokool ,  Jan 13, 2002
Pros: The game that everyone's secretly been waiting for, complete w/ sound and graphics to match.
Cons: CPU Cycle Killer. Upgrade your hardware or don't bother.
The Bottom Line: This is the most twisted concept to ever hit the harddrive. A must-have for anyone with a slightly demented sense of humor as well as a slightly itchy trigger finger.
Review: A fire. Pages turning and burning. The Mad Hatter yelling at Alice, telling her to get out of the house. A young girl jumps out of the burning building, passes out on the snow, and wakes up in what appears to be a bed at a mental institution. A nurse...

"I want to become very small."

by   skippycat ,  Feb 4, 2001
Pros: Mind blowing sound and graphics
Cons: Not really able to explore
The Bottom Line: I definitely would recommend this to people that like adventure types of games. Exploration is minimal, but the sound and graphics make up for it.
Review: This is the phrase which will send you off on your adventure in Wonderland. Your goal is to get the items to create the potion that will make you small enough to fit in the rabbit hole.

Background: Alice is the only survivor in the fire that...

This ain't your mama's Alice!

by   colonialmartyr ,  Jan 23, 2002
Pros: Phenomenal game play, a solidly compelling story line, amazing detail
Cons: It takes some time to get acclimated to, as any good game does
The Bottom Line: Quit reading this and just go buy it!
Review: Leave it to American McGee to take a beloved classic and turn it on its ear! Thank you, Mr. McGee. You've made the world a better place.

In this ingeniously twisted new vision, Alice finds that something has gone terribly wrong in Wonderland....

The fairytale turns to horror

by   chris_boers ,  Feb 19, 2001
Pros: quake engine leads to great graphics, definitely not 'soft', large
Cons: not that difficult, long loadtimes
The Bottom Line: Get it now, but only if you have a really powerful machine.
Review: You probably all know the children’s bed-time story Alice in Wonderland. In her sleep, Alice follows a white rabbit into a strange land where all odd things come together. She is attacked by card guards, is invited to the mad-hatters not-birthdayparty,...

Spectacular!

by   DagdaMor ,  Dec 5, 2000
Pros: Everything
Cons: Long loading time on slow machines
Review: This game is absolutly amazing. I always loved the story of Alice and Wonderland, but I had never even imagined something like this could ever happen to alice. The story is wonderful, (something that the people at PCgamer apparently can't see). The...

Alice: ...meets Laura Croft, meets Janis Joplin

by   EdTeach ,  Dec 30, 2000
Pros: Wonderful Worlds, Pure Art
Cons: Puzzles, Puzzles, Puzzles
Review: YES! I've been waiting for this title for some time now. Anyone who knows American McGee's work, knew the exact quality of this game even before previews started to surface. He's known throughout the industry for his creative genius. And Alice...

Alice is my kinda girl

by   akashik ,  Jul 18, 2001
Pros: beautiful scenery, spooky music
Cons: too linear
The Bottom Line: well worth the money, and a great twist on the tale of Alice.
Review: Alice by American McGee (the Quake level builder) is a tour'd'force of twisted imagery, and fantasic ambient music. While I was expect ex NIN Chris Vrenna's soundtrack to be the usual Industrial/Rock fare I was pleasantly suprised by the soft touch he's...

Very worthy of the novel.

by   abutov ,  May 18, 2001
Pros: Finally, a game worthy of the novel. A great experience.
Cons: It's over too soon. Needed more puzzles.
The Bottom Line: The best gaming experience of the year. The originality of the levels, and EERIE ambiance alone will be haunting you during and after the gameplay.
