I have over a thousand hours on this pump, and it has been a very good breastpump for the money not to mention it's still in great shape. I used this pump from the very beginning in the hospital with my daughter to both establish a supply (she was not nursing for the first month) and to maintain a supply as I went back to work. I found the speed and suction controls to be easy to use and fine tune per your individual needs. The only things I have had to replace for this pump are the valves and the silicone diaphragms (both due to wear and use - replaced after approx. 3 months). I would highly recommend to frequent pumpers to buy additional flanges and valves as this makes it MUCH easier rather than having to clean one set between uses. I used this pump 10-12 times a day for nine months, and it performed like a champ!
The cooler/bottles that this comes with is wonderful. There are three places within the cooler (on the sides) for the ice packs (it comes with these). Six bottles can fit in the cooler, and it stays cold throughout the day. The backpack is very nice and discrete (it doesn't look like you are carrying a pump around) with plenty of room for the pump, accessories, cooler, etc.
I recently switched to a Medela Lactina Select pump (after using the Ameda Purely Yours for nine months) under increased pressure to maintain an ever dwindling supply. I can honestly say I was unbelievably disappointed when I switched. Everyone had stated that hospital grade pumps were so much better, efficient, etc., perhaps I was expecting too much. I found that my pumping output was very similar (if not exactly the same), and it actually took me longer to pump using the Lactina than my Ameda Purely Yours! After a couple weeks I found that the Lactina was slightly better at stimulating my supply however also found that it did not empty my breast as well and still took twice as long for me to pump. I believe I would have been better off continuing to use my Ameda pump rather than spend $900 on a new Lactina however after hearing over and over that hospital grade pumps were better, I had to wonder if it could help me out. I was extremely sad to retire my Purely Yours, and I definitely missed the nice backpack for traveling as the Lactina is a lot bulkier and the bag is huge!
If you are committed to breastfeeding and have a need to pump, I would highly recommend this pump. It was a workhorse for me, and I truly put it to the test. If you have this pump, you MUST replace the valves every three months or you lose suction however these are very inexpensive and easy to replace.
