Poor Hinge Design

No complaints whatsoever except for the design of the lower hinges on the French doors. (No issues with the freezer door.)

When the French doors are fully open, metal-to-metal contact on the lower hinges is what stops the door travel, i.e., limits the degree to which the doors can be opened. When the doors are loaded with your food items, they (the doors) become quite heavy, and the metal-to-metal stops make the doors come to a halt abruptly. I have no faith that that system will stand the test of time.

Almost immediately, the white paint on the metal stops wore away. Longer term, I fear that the French doors might warp or worse.

Manufacturers of French door refrigerators need to come up with a design that absorbs that shock and spreads it across the height of the door. For now, all the momentum of the moving door is reacted at one tiny spot on the bottom hinge.

Although I have the Amana, I think all (or most) manufacturers of French door refrigerators use the same metal stop design on the lower hinges. The French door concept makes for a really nice refrigerator; now all they have to do is engineer quality and robustness into overlooked--but vital--components: the hinges.
