Pros:
Love the French door. Owned one for 20 years but it was outdated.
Cons:
Hate the noise! It gets on my nerves.
The Bottom Line:
Do not buy this model. Mine will be out the door when our service contract is up unless there's a way to make it quiet.

November 5th will be the 6th service call on my Amana French door model which we purchased at American Electronics. Within three days of owning this model the store replaced it due to the loud noise whenever it would cycle on and off. Then all was fine even though it still made a lot of noise. It just wasn't as loud and we sort of got used to it until the refrigerator was into it's first year of it's extended three year warranty. Then we had a total breakdown while we were on vacation. New parts were put in - a fan motor, a damper control, the defrost thermostat and a gurgle kit(which is totally useless). Now we're back to a very loud clickity clack noise. A phone call to Amana didn't help at all. She just kept telling me they'd send out one of their qualified repairman. Like American doesn't know what they're doing? Sorry but it's not the repairman but a known problem without a repair. So I just e-mailed Amana to ask why a known problem like this isn't being addressed. Car manufacturers are constantly recalling models when there is a problem and Microsoft can do a fix you can download to your computer but manufacturers of the French door refrigerators can't fix a loud noise. It's not just Amana but all French door manufacturers. I owned a Westinghouse French door prior to the Amana. It was outdated style-wise and color so I waited for French doors to come back in style. Would I buy one again? No way - even though it's my favorite style. Am I doomed to wait 20 years before this problem is solved?
